I always insert my harsticks/forks/stuff from the left.

I'm right handed so my natural inclination is to insert it from right to left.

I guess it depends on what hand you write with? Anyone do it the opposite way?

 Wow. Interesting title.

For the record, I insert mine to the right.

Right to left most of the time. Although if it's a Ficcare I prefer left to right.

Right to left most of the time. I find that with my cinnamon buns, though, if I go left to right, things look more even, just due to the way the coils end up situated... working on varying this.
The way things end up situated with an equilibrium bun, I am usually forced to go left to right.

From the right. Especially with clips with a heavy spring - my right hand is stronger.

Right to left because I'm right-handed.

I generally do left to right (I'm left-handed), but I do sometimes insert the opposite way... still insert the stick with my left hand, though. :silly:

I insert from the right.

March 18th, 2008, 01:15 AM
I insert my hair screw, barrettes and usually sticks from the right (I'm right handed). Of course if I'm pinning I do that from whatever direction needs it, and with sticks I sometimes insert from the top.

I'm left handed but do lots of things with my right hand. Updos is one if them, not sure why. So I insert hair sticks/forks/ficcares from the right.

Wow.

There seems to be a majority of right-inserters here. I feel a bit alone :)

No preferences here, I insert it either way depending on...depending on nothing, I think!

I am right-handed and always put my hairstick in from right to left. My left hand is just about useless. :?

Billie
March 18th, 2008, 03:19 AM
Depends on were my ends are. But mostly from right to left, even though I'm left-handed.

Woo, first post on the new site. (It's been a looooooong time).

With single sticks and forks I insert top right to bottom left. Pairs of sticks I always insert the top-right/bottom-left first and then the one in the opposite direction. I also insert my ficcarres right to left (and usually on a slight diagonal slant too). I'm right handed.

When I'm twisting my hair I always flick it over my left shoulder and twist anti-clockwise....

Another right-to-left inserter here :) I'm also right handed.

I always go from the right, being right handed seems my left hand is redundant!

Alaia
March 18th, 2008, 04:20 AM
Sticks: Left to right if it's a single stick of course. (Yup I'm left handed)

Forks: Up to down :p

right to left (right-handed) I also twist and wrap clockwise

I am pretty ambidexterous, so I tend to put the hair toy in were it seems needed the most, sometimes it is from left to right and other times from right to left.

I am right-handed and go right to left with my hairsticks.
So far the Equilibrium Bun is the only exception.

I second all of this. Especially the first line.

From the right to left, even though 99% of the time, I can't get them to stay in!

I guess I'm bi my ficcares goes left to right and put in with the left hand. My hair stick goes right to left and put in with the right hand. Never thought about it before ....

Lol :D I thought this too when I saw the thread title! Gotta get my mind out of the gutter!

Alas! I am not able to use hairsticks yet, but I have some nice ones waiting for the day that I can!

I'm ambidextrous (thank you grandma for deciding that being left-handed was EVIL when I was 9 years old), and sticks go in left to right, Ficcares right to left, and forks mostly straight up and down.

I start on the right.

I"m right handed and I insert from right to left. I also twist everything counter clockwise... I wonder if that would make a difference?

When I use two sticks (which I usually do), the first stick go in right to left and the other left to right, and I use my right hand.

Right to left, I am right handed. :D

Wanita
March 18th, 2008, 09:19 AM
Interesting. I don't think it has to do with the dominant hand. For me, it has to do with what direction the 'do is wrapped, otherwise the implement won't hold.

I wrap counter-clockwise, and insert weapon of choice from left to right. I am right handed.

The exception to this is the Chinese bun, where the stick does not matter for hold. In that case, I tend to insert the stick so the decorative end is on the right.

Right to left for me!

eadwine
March 18th, 2008, 10:18 AM
Right to left. Although I HAVE been seen with hairtoys the other way in. I have one that actually NEEDS the left to right insertion :)

Oh, and I twist clockwise, but bun counterclockwise.

k_hepburn
March 18th, 2008, 10:45 AM
If using a single hair stick or fork, I almost always insert it from right to left, being right-handed myself, but sometimes I have to change that, if the way I twisted my up-do works out so that the "tucked under ends" wouldn't be held in place properly if I inserted right to left.

By the way, to ma annoyance single hair sticks in particular in my experience tend to have a tendency to move down clockwise during the day. I guess that may have something to do with me usually twisting counter-clockwise. So, while I may have inserted the hair stick at 1 or two o'clock, in the evening I may find the top end at four or five o'clock...

Greetings

katharine

ETA: Eadwine - how do you do that, twisting one way and bunning the other?

eadwine
March 18th, 2008, 10:50 AM
How to explain that now.. I twist the hairs clockwise and then the bun ends up counter..

You can see it here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0YIyUGn2pI), hopefully that makes more sense

Note that for this video I only twisted the base part, I usually twist the length too, but that would get confusing for the basic idea of this video :)

Thanks for the instant reply, Eadwine, I was really curious about this!

Of course, getting a visual is really helpful. Very cute looking bun, too, I will definitely try that one!

Greetings :flowers:

Glad that could clarify things for you! Text often just doesn't do it. Good luck on the bun :)

Either way works for me. It usually depends on the updo and the direction of the twist - I vary it from side to side so that the hairs don't get all the wear in one direction. If that actually happens....

Interesting, I put mine in left to right.

LifeisAdventure
March 19th, 2008, 08:43 PM
Always from the right! That hand is stronger and just more adept at manipulating my hair. If I try from the left it comes out all wonky. :P

Always from the right, couldn't do any other way.

Isilme
March 20th, 2008, 02:02 AM
from right to left. If I use two sticks and want them to create an X I insert the holding stick right to left and the reinforce stick left to right. Ficcares right to left, left to right doesn't hold as well. Forks, up and down. :) oh, I'm right handed. But since many are right handed, perhaps most bun instructions are made by us too, causing lefties to act as a right handed?

I usually insert my hair toys from right to left, as that tends to feel most natural to me. I'm right handed.
