View Full Version : Wear hair up for a month/few months/year challenge! squiggyflop July 20th, 2008, 07:07 AM 18 19 20 scrunchy bun.. anyone seeing a pattern? hehe Aelith July 20th, 2008, 09:24 AM Day 46 of 365: ponytail Day 47 of 365: pinned up braids I chemically dyed the roots late on day 45, and as of day 47, no greasies, so no wash. Actually, it's a bit dry, so I put in some jojoba today. I may CO tomorrow, or I may SMT before bed and sleep in it (which can be mess). Hmmmm. angelthadiva July 20th, 2008, 09:43 AM tiny_teesha: Girly, how do you do that do? :D It's cute! I colored my hair last night---Haven't quite decided how I'm doing my hair yet... 30isthenewblack Thanks! I used to do all fancy things with my hair before and I stopped for some reason. Inspiration Okay, I'll try! I kinda feel like I'm doing the same style day after day--I need some inspiration! SweetPea88 July 20th, 2008, 10:06 AM Okay, I'm giving this a try (again). I move back on campus in 27 days and would like to keep my hair up until then. I really want to complete this challenge so that I can become more comfortable with my hair in updos/braids, give myself more practice, and protect my ends. When I go back to school in the fall I don't want to feel like wearing my hair down is the only way I can look good. Also, it will help me avoid washing my hair more frequently when I return to school. My plan is to keep it up for all 27 days, do my regular sleep braid at night, but allow it to be down while it airdries. Day 1 of 27: Cinnabun with Etta Mae bloodwood fork. Islandgrrl July 20th, 2008, 02:02 PM Day 235: Haven't done this one in a while.....SOCK BUN!!! mommy2one05 July 20th, 2008, 02:14 PM chainedangel - i'd say microbraids count as an up do. The hair is contained, in the mini braids, so yeh! :) I wore a nice bun i made up to church, it is really pretty. here it is. http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/7366/twistybunfl2.th.jpg (http://img179.imageshack.us/my.php?image=twistybunfl2.jpg) That is a pretty updo. Did you find how to do it on here or you just threw it together yourself? Patrycja July 20th, 2008, 04:22 PM Day 77 of 100 a scrunchie bun yrrebwartsymssi July 20th, 2008, 04:25 PM day 11&12:twisted in little knots in the back and pinned in place with bobby pins nappywomyn July 20th, 2008, 07:06 PM Day 187 - Currently drying in six fat braids, later in two french twists. ;) Smokie July 20th, 2008, 10:48 PM Day 173: I did a flipped cinnabun I think. The thing where you make a cinnabun, loosen it a bit, then flip it over so it's just a coil or two poking out of a pocket of hair? It's held with my ficcare (which somehow escaped my epic ankle-spraining fall unscathed... weird considering I know for certain I smacked the thing against the pavement). ETA: Screw the fuzzy flipped cinnabun. I just discovered my hair's just barely long enough to do Hypnotica's decorated french twist thing with the braid wrapped 'round it. Secured with ficcare and two bobbypins to hold the braid in place. chloeishere July 20th, 2008, 11:40 PM Day 19- up in a french twist for the interview, down when sleeping, up in an equilibrium bun with the tortoise ketylo for the rest of the day. Day 20-- Don't remember, but I slept a lot. Um, probably an equilibrium bun again. :o When I was awake. Day 21-- crammed into my medium celtic knot flexi-8 for a bun. I can't find the large one that I own (PLEASE DON'T TELL ME I LOST IT, I'LL CRY), so I've been making do. I can juuuust cram it all into the medium, but I always think I'm going to snap a finger in it, or break 300 hairs or something. It's way too tight. Here's a picture of my hair trying to bust out-- even with all those loose hairs everywhere, it was crammed full. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k152/chloeishere/IMG_4483c.jpg Also, my voice is completely destroyed from going into work. I was feeling better this morning, but going to work where I have to talk often for 8 hours was a huge mistake. Te Atawhai July 20th, 2008, 11:41 PM Day 14: a folded plait held with a sparkly hair pin - ooh shiny! tiny_teesha July 20th, 2008, 11:43 PM angelthadiva and mommy2one05 thank you- yes i did make it up as far as i am concerned, i made it up and i don't recognise it so i guess it is original! :). I'm glad you guys like it! Here are the instructions i call it the "fluer de lis" bun! Here (http://www.salleeint.com/catalog/images/402rg.jpg) is a photo of a fluer de lis- what i named it after. http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/7366/twistybunfl2.th.jpg (http://img179.imageshack.us/my.php?image=twistybunfl2.jpg) I'm quoting my blog: You will need: Bobby pins, a hair elastic the same colour as your hair (hair friendly), a hair pins with motifs for decorations, ... that's it really! a comb and hair too. I did this style on ii waist(29") length, heavily tapered hair. side http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/6749/fluersidedl4.th.jpg (http://img143.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fluersidedl4.jpg) 1- Comb hair out. 2- Grap the canopy (top) section (take out any bangs or face framing your would like to use now) and then you can pouf it, i just extremely slightly pinned it a bit pushed forward, you can't even tell it is poufed it just looks messy- in a good way. Then pin with bobby pins 3- Then comb the rest of the hair into a pony tail with the canopy section included. Secure with an elastic. Remember the where you secure the bun will be both just above and just below it. 4- lift the pony tail up flat against your head, you may need to bend forward to keep the hair there, secure with bobby pins just above the elastic. 5- Once that is secure stand upright and then secure all the hair below it. I gathered the hair as close as i coudl and only used 2 bobby pins for these steps, one on either side with then makeing an X shape to be super secure. http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/2671/fluerclosezl8.th.jpg (http://img87.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fluerclosezl8.jpg) 6- then seperate that part gently into 2 pieces. 7- Take the right piece and cross it to the left, then bring it up and wind it aroudn the bun- depending on the length you may need to secure it on the way, once you run out of hair try to dig it into the bun and secure with a pin. 8- take the left piece and cross it over to the right and around the bun and secure much the same as the step previous. 9- You are DONE! Sit back and take a look at the cool do you are now sporting! http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/8583/fluerbottomvs5.th.jpg (http://img87.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fluerbottomvs5.jpg) And today i have my hair in a loose plait. Day 265. Patrycja July 21st, 2008, 08:44 AM Day 78 of 100 yet another messy bun held with papadonh stick SweetPea88 July 21st, 2008, 12:11 PM Teesha I really like your fluer de lis bun! Day 2 of 27: A tad messy Chinese bun http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff265/raventresses88/july21002.jpg Islandgrrl July 21st, 2008, 12:19 PM Day 236: Funky poofy bun. I took my hair into about 6 sections and pulled each section back separately, twisting the length a little and then sort of stacked all the twists together and secured with a Ficcare. squiggyflop July 21st, 2008, 12:22 PM ok so today is day 21 for me.. i decided to do something other than my usual beebutt scrunchy bun.. i got it in a cinnabun with a manyhorsesmane fork comb thingy.. then ive got 2 jeweled combs stuck in it in an effort to make my bangs stay in the bun.. the jeweled combs sort of match my earrings chloeishere July 21st, 2008, 01:36 PM Day 22-- equilibrium bun with lignum vitae etta mae fork. Instead of being better today, my voice is COMPLETLEY gone. My normal voice is quieter than a whisper right now. yrrebwartsymssi July 21st, 2008, 02:22 PM Day 13:lazy afro puff!!! angelthadiva July 21st, 2008, 02:54 PM Day 238--I am not feeling well, and I have no idea what you'd call what I've got going on with my hair today...It's pulled up with medium sized round claw clips, 3 actually...It looks like an alligator's back. Te Atawhai July 22nd, 2008, 03:37 AM Day 14: chinese bun Smokie July 22nd, 2008, 03:40 AM Day 174: and I've been uncontrollably napping in a looped pony. I'll change it in a few hours, something more interesting, I've got errands to run. Sceleste July 22nd, 2008, 04:12 AM Day 52 of 60. Today I'm wearing two dutch braids. It's raining outside, and because I ride a bike to work I have to dress properly to prevent getting wet. Hair-wise that means I have to wear a braid so I can wear a baseball cap and tuck the ends inside my coat. I am going to leave my hair loose on Saturday, which would be day 56, because I want to dress up and look pretty at Finncon, a scifi and fantasy event. Luckily June and July have total 61 days, so I can cheat a bit on one day and still fulfill my 60 day challenge before August. :) n3m3sis42 July 22nd, 2008, 04:56 AM Day 49: Equilibrium bun with Quattro Starlites fork. Day 50: Equilibrium bun with Etta Mae fork. Day 51: Equilibrium bun with Baerreis fork. tiny_teesha July 22nd, 2008, 05:21 AM day 266 - Just a looped pony tail. I watched pride and prejudice and there was a lovely hairdo, with herringbones entwined in a curly bun of sorts, i want to try it out, don't think i'll succeed but anyway! Tommorow, if i remember chainedangel July 22nd, 2008, 07:09 AM Day 19: microbraids Day 20: bunned microbraids Day 21: plain microbraids angelthadiva July 22nd, 2008, 07:30 AM Day 239--Rope Braided Bun secured with a clip. Patrycja July 22nd, 2008, 08:46 AM Day 79 of 100 a pony with new Old School Leather slide yrrebwartsymssi July 22nd, 2008, 08:48 AM Day 14:pinned up little knots.... i can't believe i made it two weeks!! i used to ALWAYS wear my hair out!!! NurseMama July 22nd, 2008, 09:23 AM Day 5- Flexi 8 French twist Day 6- Flexi 8 French Twist Day 7- I have no clue what this is called. I took a low pony held with a hairband and braided two equal sized braids. I then took a hairstick placed horizontally behind the ponytail holder and wrapped the braids around the stick and the band. I had to pin each braid once, but it was a rock hard pretty style for walking through the zoo all day. Day 8-I am rocking the scrunchie bun now waiting to wash it this afternoon. SweetPea88 July 22nd, 2008, 09:37 AM Day 3 of 27 I did my first orchid bun today! I absolutely love it! http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff265/raventresses88/july22.jpg Islandgrrl July 22nd, 2008, 09:59 AM Day 237: Freshly washed and in a loose cinnabun w/ficcare to dry a bit more. The plan is to attempt a rope braid when it's a little less drippy. chloeishere July 22nd, 2008, 04:18 PM Day 23-- equilbrium bun with etta mae lignum vitae fork. Still sick. :( Islandgrrl July 22nd, 2008, 04:24 PM Day 3 of 27 I did my first orchid bun today! I absolutely love it! http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff265/raventresses88/july22.jpg That's just lovely! I can't wait until I can do that! Smokie July 22nd, 2008, 04:28 PM Day 175: Yes, I know, my schedule's weird... Left down longer than usual to dry to see if it's still curling up to a weird length. It is. Still a bit damp and I've tied it into a literal knot at the nape. I'm going to a movie this evening. Leaning towards a side braid for that, but it may just wind up in a bun of some flavor. We'll see. Also, I'm considering extending my challenge. Keep getting the urge to cut drastically to remove damaged length (henna helps, but it can only do so much) and I think part of that's caused by being at an awkward length. The rest, I think, is caused by big changes in my life right now (leaving DBF and deciding to stay where I am and start seriously pushing for a job I feel quite underqualified for at work). So I think I may just wear it up until it hits at least waist length when wet. Then it'll be curling to something close to BSL. I'll also be giving myself a trim (gonna use Feye's method then layer by ponytail method) soon. I believe I have another four inches or so to go until waist, so that should be at least another seven months away. With the possible job transition at work, moving to my own apartment with no roommates, etc I think it may be good for me to just keep my hair up for a looooong time and forget about it. Opinions? Smokie July 22nd, 2008, 04:31 PM Day 7- I have no clue what this is called. I took a low pony held with a hairband and braided two equal sized braids. I then took a hairstick placed horizontally behind the ponytail holder and wrapped the braids around the stick and the band. I had to pin each braid once, but it was a rock hard pretty style for walking through the zoo all day. Sounds like a braided chinese bun to me. Wish my hair was long enough for one! Day 3 of 27 I did my first orchid bun today! I absolutely love it! http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff265/raventresses88/july22.jpg Gorgeous! With a little luck and not trimming too much I might just be able to do this one soon. Doubt mine will look as pretty as yours though. Darn curls like to leave random bumps everywhere. Haha. Still sick. :( Bah! Stop being sick! Hope you feel better soon doll. :flowers: NurseMama July 22nd, 2008, 04:40 PM Sounds like a braided chinese bun to me. Wish my hair was long enough for one! Your hair is the exact same length as mine! It is a Chinese braided bun- you were right! SweetPea88 July 22nd, 2008, 04:55 PM Thank you Islandgrrl and Smokie! :flowers: I really like the orchid bun but I think I might need a tiny bit more length for it to stay really secure. It's holding really well now but it definitely took some tries to get it right. I'll have to work on it a bit more before I can leave the house with it! Indigo Girl July 22nd, 2008, 07:23 PM Day 34 - Scrunchie bun Day 35 - Scrunchie bun Day 36 - Braid Day 37 - Braid Indigo Girl July 22nd, 2008, 07:24 PM Day 3 of 27 I did my first orchid bun today! It is a Chinese braided bun- you were right! Hah! So it is. Hrm... I have an elastic and a stick right here.... Time to try it! ETA: Holy cow it is long enough! Yay! I might do this for work Thursday night! Feels comfy too. Back to my lazing around in a looped pony though. Sticks and bed don't mix. mommy2one05 July 22nd, 2008, 11:37 PM Day 3 of 27 I did my first orchid bun today! I absolutely love it! http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff265/raventresses88/july22.jpg I've never heard of this one. It is very pretty and your hair is so smooth and shiny. I am guessing this one is in the article section, maybe?? Elanor July 23rd, 2008, 04:13 AM Days 8-17: Kept my hair up with scrunchies, hair bands and sometimes wore a ponytail or braid. I spent the week at our summer cottage, which included loads of swimming, trampoline jumping and motor boat rides, so my updos never lasted long :D Managed to keep it up almost all the time though! angelthadiva July 23rd, 2008, 06:43 AM Day 240--A cinnabun w/a poofy front :) secured with a clip. Islandgrrl July 23rd, 2008, 07:01 AM Day 238: Cinnabun for now. Being difficult and not wanting to be comfortable. NurseMama July 23rd, 2008, 07:06 AM Hah! So it is. Hrm... Patrycja July 23rd, 2008, 08:42 AM Day 80 of 100 a messy french twist with Flexi8 SweetPea88 July 23rd, 2008, 12:09 PM Thank you very much Indigo Girl! :flowers: Mommy2one05, thank you so much! I actually don't think this is in the articles section, but I have some links I can give you! From the archives (http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=40856) From LeaM07's Blog (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/blog.php?b=6494) SweetPea88 July 23rd, 2008, 12:11 PM Day 4 of 27 Log roll--I finally got it right! :D I've decided to keep up the daily picture taking and will be keeping them in my blog. NurseMama July 23rd, 2008, 12:30 PM Angelthadiva, how to your get your hair to poof in the front? I try it and I look utterly ridiculous. I just feel kind of severe sometims with the updos. I have some fringe that softens it, but a little even controlled poof would do wonders. n3m3sis42 July 23rd, 2008, 05:39 PM Day 52: SMT with shower cap, and then a low ponytail with a scrunchie once my hair was finally rinsed out. Day 53: Equilibrium bun with Etta Mae fork. Smokie July 23rd, 2008, 10:43 PM Day 176: About to take a nap (driving test in the morning **crosses fingers**) so it's in my sleep style as of late. Loose, damp, and oiled in a sleep cap thingy. I mentioned them the other day and someone asked about 'em... **digs out link** I use these (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320237056933) and I love them. Might even buy more and request specific colors. I think I'd look alright in a blue/green one. The brown and pink ones don't make me look too silly, but I absolutely ridiculous in the black one. Oh, and I'll be leaving my hair down in the morning (just for a couple hours!). If I pass my test this time, they'll be taking my picture and I have this inherent need to have my hair down for ID pictures. Not sure why. chloeishere July 24th, 2008, 01:11 AM Day 24-- equilibrium bun with etta mae alowood ebony fork. Voice still out. Still coughing. Very sad about some wildlife. tiny_teesha July 24th, 2008, 03:12 AM 268 - in a canopy 3 strand plait, brought to my left side and wraped around a pony tail, with which the ends are 4 strand plaited and secured with a scrunchie i made :) Te Atawhai July 24th, 2008, 03:39 AM Day 15: Cinnabun Day 16: Folded plait with sparkly butterfly fork Diamondbell July 24th, 2008, 04:25 AM Day 185 (yes, I am still at it!) - Double Figure 8 bun with starlites :) angelthadiva July 24th, 2008, 07:18 AM Angelthadiva, how to your get your hair to poof in the front? I try it and I look utterly ridiculous. I just feel kind of severe sometims with the updos. I have some fringe that softens it, but a little even controlled poof would do wonders. I answered this the other day, the only difference is I wasn't trying to disguise any grey highlights this time... :D I did everything just the same, and it worked out great. <snip>It was created by accident--Sort of...My hair has a natural part to the left, and I was in desperate need of a root touch up that I was trying to put off for a couple more days...I was trying to disguise some of my "grey highlights" that would have shown if I wore my hair in my normal bun style. Every updo I do w/an exception of a French/Dutch braid I have to anchor the style with a pony tail first--Otherwise it will tumble down...So, I brushed my hair back into a ponytail and pulled some of it out to make the poof, then I tightened the ponytail back up and pulled out some more to make it tighter, then wrapped up my cinnabee but. I have no idea how it worked, but it stayed up all day w/o any pins or anything...Must have been magic! :D Day 241--English Braid Islandgrrl July 24th, 2008, 07:27 AM Day 239: Sloppy French Twist w/Jade Border Ficcare. Bad allergy day and I woke up with a sinus headache. Blech. Patrycja July 24th, 2008, 08:43 AM Day 81 of 100 not feeling on top of the world today,so just a ponytail. SweetPea88 July 24th, 2008, 09:08 AM Day 5 of 27: I did my first nautilus bun today and I really love it! NurseMama July 24th, 2008, 09:56 AM I answered this the other day, the only difference is I wasn't trying to disguise any grey highlights this time... :D I did everything just the same, and it worked out great. Thank you! I now remember reading about that. I am going to have to try that :) NurseMama July 24th, 2008, 09:58 AM Day 9- More of the scrunchie bun as I was at home Day 10- I have my hair down to enjoy it a little this morning as I will be henna'ing my roots this afternoon. Smokie July 24th, 2008, 11:53 AM It's not really time to post yet as my days are my nights and my nights are my days, but I had to inform... I can now drive legally without a licensed driver to copilot! Passed my test! Yay! **happydance** And now it's pouring down rain and I have to meet a friend in town who I rarely see to keep me up more past my bedtime. Hair's going in a cinnabun or french/peacock twist with my ficcare. Ficcares do okay in wet, right? (I'm from Texas, it rains sideways here, umbrellas are worthless. Patrycja July 24th, 2008, 12:57 PM Congrats Smokie!!!! :happydance: :cheer: Good for you :D Stay safe with those bad storms where you're at ;) Indigo Girl July 24th, 2008, 03:45 PM Day 38 - Oiled braid Day 39 - Scrunchie bun Congrats, Smokie! :bluesmile chloeishere July 24th, 2008, 05:52 PM Day 25- equilibrium bun with etta mae bloodwood fork. Congratulations, Smokie! It's always nice to have that freedom when you first are able to drive on your own! n3m3sis42 July 24th, 2008, 06:19 PM Day 54: Equilibrium bun with Etta Mae "Pawn" fork. I think it may be time to start trying to learn a new updo soon. And my second 30-day challenge will be up in 6 days! :) I'm getting my hair trimmed for the first time in a really long time (well, it's a long time for me--about 9 months) next Friday. I'm thinking about taking a day or two to wear it down before deciding whether I'll do another 30-day challenge. chainedangel July 24th, 2008, 06:38 PM Day 22: plain microbraids Day 23: 2 side braids Now my hair is down in plain micros and I'm lol cuz I have braided braid waves! Yeah. I'm weird. Smokie July 24th, 2008, 10:31 PM Day 177: Cinnabun with speharb heart fork. It's still all wet and yucky so I decided metal hairtoy would be the best route. Thanks for the congratulations y'all. I'm exhausted as I wound up running some much needed errands after my test and visiting with a couple friends who thought XDBF wouldn't let me talk to them the last few months. Was good to see 'em. And now I'm very sleepy and in for a very long night at work. Te Atawhai July 24th, 2008, 10:58 PM Day 17: cinnabun with dangly leaf sticks n3m3sis42 July 25th, 2008, 04:33 AM Day 38 - Oiled braid Day 39 - Scrunchie bun How is your hair doing? ETA-nope,no sticks :( I did a pretty decent cinnabun held with 60th Street fork angelthadiva July 25th, 2008, 08:32 AM Day 242--I was rocking some pretty nice braid waves from yesterday and my sleep braid, but I used Kimberlily's de-frizz spray and have my hair up in a damp-ish cinnabun. One of those days when you really want to wear it down and show it off, huh? I changed - not much, but a little - I'm now up in a Gibraltar bun (barely) secured with one of the Ketylos from the Cinnabun. angelthadiva July 25th, 2008, 10:43 AM One of those days when you really want to wear it down and show it off, huh? <snip> :D You know me too well! :) Islandgrrl July 25th, 2008, 10:45 AM :D You know me too well! :) Ya think? :silly: chloeishere July 25th, 2008, 01:13 PM Day 26-- equilibrium bun with my green-black aquapearl ketylo. I cassiaaed last night, and only did CO to wash it out, so I may wash again tonight (probably, in fact). In which case, it'll be down for a while to dry, then back up. Patrycja July 27th, 2008, 08:18 AM Day 84 of 100 well since I don't know how to do a log roll and I still have that headache,it's in a ponytail held with scrunchie. So many choices,so little time  frizzinator July 27th, 2008, 08:57 AM Day 84 of 100 well since I don't know how to do a log roll and I still have that headache,it's in a ponytail held with scrunchie. So many choices,so little time  To make a log roll, start as if making a ponytail, holding the ponytail between the thumb and index finger of your left hand (palm facing head). Loop the ponytail up over your index finger (The longer your hair, the more fingers you use here, I use 2 fingers). The tail is now hanging down between the tip(s) of your finger(s) and your scalp on the right side. Use your left thumb to contol the tail and sort-of push the tail to the left. With your right hand, reach around to the left side of your neck, between your left arm and your neck, and grab the tail. This is easier to do if you turn your head to the right. Holding the loop away from your head still wrapped around the left finger(s), start wrapping the tail with your right hand around the loop, until the tail is completely wrapped around the loop. Now you can twist the log roll just a bit to tighten it up and to keep the tail-ends on the back side, remove your finger(s) from the loop and hold the log roll against your scalp while inserting a U shaped pin (bent knitting needle) on each side to hold it. I insert the pins at the top of the log roll, catching one side of the loop, and then catch some scalp hair, before exiting the log roll in the area where the tail is wrapped (the thickest part of the log roll). Exiting lower than the wrap does not hold. angelthadiva July 27th, 2008, 03:40 PM Day 243--English Braid Day 244-Japanese Bun w/a sparkly stick chloeishere July 27th, 2008, 04:56 PM Day 28-- flexi-8 bun for work, I just got off. I started about three weeks ago, because I was very low and washing my hair was the last thing on my mind, so I was putting off washing as loooooooooooooooong as I possibly could. My hair was gross, but nobody noticed because of the artful pinning ;) I've since decided that this would be a good strategy for me anyway - I want to really focus on the condition of my hair. I have to admit I used to wear it loose with gay abandon because I like to see my hair, but have come to the conclusion that I'd prefer to see it loose less often but see it in better condition! So I'm in. I'm going to start from today, July 28th, and I'll be brave - I'll go for two months initially! I'm hoping to move to a new town by the middle of September, so the two dates might coincide quite nicely :) I'm really looking forward to seeing two months' worth of growth. I'm yearning for waist length, currently just below BSL; so two months could give me a real morale boost. pariate July 28th, 2008, 09:58 AM Oh - I forgot... Day 1 - folded pony (my lazy, everyday do... must learn new styles!) chloeishere July 28th, 2008, 03:54 PM Day 29-- equilibrium bun with etta mae lignum vitae fork. Yesterday, I did a braided bun after my hair dried, with a vineyard ketylo. Something besides an equilibrium bun! Although I did a top-o'-the-head cinnabun last night to sleep too, so there! I haven't considered ponytails to be "up" for the duration of this challenge, because I only count styles that are protective of the ends. So that's why so many equilibrium buns. :D Smokie July 28th, 2008, 06:28 PM Now is the part where Day 181 should start: and I haven't slept yet... Did leave it up in the ficcare bun all day (only redid it once while I was still at work, and didn't have to redo even with the wind blowing through my car windows all day running errands) though. So I'm about to put some oil in it, braid it, put on my sleepcap thing (I keep waking up to find them under my pillow instead of on my head for some reason, think I'm getting hot in my sleep... hence the braiding) and sleep through what's normally my day. Think I'll wear the Emerald ficcare in the morning. I'm taking my niece to see Dark Knight. n3m3sis42 July 28th, 2008, 07:33 PM Day 58: Equilibrium bun with Nightblooming stick. brixxgirl16 July 28th, 2008, 07:41 PM Day 1 ended up being a loose bun/topsy tail contraption secured with a stick barette. I actually henna'd yesterday, so once the sun comes up I'll go outside and take pictures in the early morning light that makes everything extra pretty. :) ETA@Jasmine19: I have definitely noticed differences. Granted, I started my challenge only a few days after joining LHC and have made many changes in the way I treat my hair. My hair is now softer, shinier, thicker, stronger, and longer than it has been in years. What I know I can contribute to wearing it up is the definite no turning back now length gain (I've been getting to awkward length and cutting back to curly bob for some years now) and enormous damage reduction. Now, I know I can attribute part of that damage reduction to dropping the brush, cones, and chemical colors, but I can definitely say that wearing it up and protected (and ditching the ponytails for the most part) has definitely helped reduce breakage (and, thus, frizz!). I did take a break from my challenge by changing it to only hair up at work and noticed that when not wearing my hair up all the time, the ends dry out and get yucky much faster. HTH Elanor July 31st, 2008, 11:28 PM Day 26: A messy bun and a hair band Day 27: Two braids Now that I've been wearing my hair up for almost a month it definitely feels smoother and looks shinier and healthier than it usually does in the summer :) chrissy-b August 1st, 2008, 12:33 AM How much does putting your hair up help??// I've been wearing my hair up since Jan (and plan to continue until the new year) and it has really helped me gain length. Not because it helps my growth rate, but because it keeps me from cutting it. I too have noticed that my hair is in better condition, but that is probably because I'm taking better care of my hair than I ever have and not from wearing it up all the time alone. n3m3sis42 August 1st, 2008, 05:26 AM Day 61: Cinnabun with Quattro Starlites fork. That's really awesome, I didn't even notice my hair grew so long, hehe. :D Still wearing a cinnamon bun almost every day (I'm on day 244 if I counted correctly). Meli August 1st, 2008, 09:33 AM Hello everyone! I participated in this challenge earlier this year, I had not set a definite goal but was thinking one year. Then I realized that wearing my hair "up", as in all hair contained, was no real challenge - after all, I have been wearing it up more or less every day since I found LCH seven months ago. So, I decided to participate in the challenge for three months instead of a full year. Anyway, my computer went down, I completed the three months, and when I finally got back online I forgot to mention that my three months were completed. Now I have decided to rejoin - but in order to make it a challenge, it will be hardcore this time. The main reason for rejoining, is that I need to protect my ends better. For now, I'm wearing braids way more often than buns, and I have to change that. My ends are very damaged, and I have just started trimming. Thing is, I love fairytale ends, but in combination with damaged ends it seems like all I get is slow/stalling or even negative growth, because of all breakage. And if I can't have fairytale ends until my damage is gone, then I want a blunt hemline in the mean time. Not necessary a thick one, only thick enough to look blunt-ish. I do not want to be at an inbetween stage, where the ends are neither really fairytaled nor really blunt - too thin to be blunt and too even to be fairytaled. So, I need to protect my ends so they won't fairytale before the next trim - if that happens, I might have to trim more than I want to. I also need to stop obsess with S&D, as that makes the fairytale-ing faster. I will only do it if it is really necessary, if I get tangles because of splits/broken bends. To make it hardcore the rules will be no hair down except while grooming/washing. It shouldn't be down until completely dry either - better to put it up while it's still damp. Updos count only if the ends are tucked under - no braids hanging down and definitely no ponytails. For sleep, my hair will be braided and the braids put in their satin pouches (this is not a challenge, though - I sleep better when I don't have to worry about sleeping on my hair). I will start with 15 days, and then see how I feel about it. Today is day 1 of 15, and my hair is up in a pinless braided bun - which probably will be my default style. angelthadiva August 1st, 2008, 12:57 PM Day 46 - Braid Angel, that's a lovely sock bun! :bluesmile Thanks! :flowers: How much does putting your hair up help??// It helps me a lot--I had been doing it for years, but not consistently, until a former job required it...Moving machinery and all ;) I wore my hair up for nearly 2 years, and it seemed like overnight my hair was suddenly waist length! I've only done minimal cutting, dusting/micro-trims as we call them here since my "big cut of 2002"...I just had my last child, turned 30 and felt old and frumpy...I know, I know...DH hated the cut, he's happy now :eyebrows:, but not in that :eyebrows: kinda way...He just likes my hair long. :D again I digress. Have any of you seen a good difference in hair texture, lenght etc? I notice mine is softer, but that may or may not have to do with the updos...I'm just taking better care of my hair all around...I'm washing less (than pre-LHC), I'm wearing it up more (than pre-LHC), I'm using products and tools that are better for my hair...NO evil metal crimps on the ponytail holders for me, no rough, plastic seem combs...No nylon brushes...I don't know if I'm answering your ??? but I think the updos help, but I think it's ALL the good stuff I'm doing, not just the updos...Oh, my hair loves oils, who woulda thought that? :D HTH :flower: Day 249--Chinese Braided Bun http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd9/angelthadiva/100_1663.jpg w/b Mellie! brixxgirl16 August 1st, 2008, 10:00 PM Day 5: messy bun w/ hairstick Smokie August 1st, 2008, 10:08 PM Day 185: Cinnabun with cobalt ficcare again. So, July has seen my hair in a bun almost every day, some days in a braid, but mostly a plain cinnamon bun with one of my ketylo or quecraft sticks. tiny_teesha August 2nd, 2008, 05:57 AM 277 - in a pony tail EvaSimone August 2nd, 2008, 06:16 AM Okay so I haven't checked in in a while but I've been doing the challenge regardless :) Today is my last day of the challenge (I had one cheat day where I wore it down for most of the day) so I added one day on. I didn't really reach my goal of learning new hair styles. I pretty much did either a braid bun with ficcare bun with stick :p All in all it was pretty easy, I do have a sore spot on the back of my head though most likely from my beloved Ficcares. I am going to take a few days off and maybe join the challenge again. Smokie August 2nd, 2008, 09:19 AM Finally getting around to posting pictures. I promise, I'll try to post photos more often. Got very busy dealing with XDBF coming back not himself and broken and whatnot. And now I get to get busy moving, but I should have the time and focus to remember a picture every so often. Elanor August 2nd, 2008, 10:19 AM Day 28: A bun! I finally found a bun that I can make to my layered hair. The shortest layers are so short that they always stick out (and by the end of the day, slip out) of any bun or braid, but this one is an idiot-proof updo :D Don't know if this has an official name.. http://www.elsa.iloinen.net/nuttura.jpg This is my first one so it's a bit messy, but I'm sure it'll get better as I get more practise. First I made a plain ponytail. Then I took small sections of hair and twisted them around the pony one by one and secured with those pins. It doesn't matter if the sections are different lenghts cause each one is twisted and secured individually. I'm happy! :) I'm going to take my challenge further and forbid ponytails. Only buns and braids from this on! pariate August 2nd, 2008, 11:40 AM Day 5 (yesterday) - chignon Day 6 - ponytail Patrycja August 2nd, 2008, 04:31 PM Day 88 of 100 a cinnabun held with indigo 60th street fork Days 89-93 of 100 I spent sometime in the hospital for another asthma attack and a enlarged liver so it was ponytail city for me :( ETA-Smokie, I am totally diggin that cobalt ficcare with your red hair! :rockerdud Thanks for posting the pics! Yesterday I did do a half up because I wanted it somewhat down, but it was so hot out I ended up doing a second lower bun an hour after leaving the house! The Texas heat is kicking my butt this year. heatherainsley August 3rd, 2008, 06:09 PM wow i think i might try to do this when i am done moving till then everything is a lost cause lol Diamondbell August 3rd, 2008, 07:30 PM Day 196 (of 1 year challenge): Braided bun with VK sticks, which has green aventurine stones tiny_teesha August 3rd, 2008, 08:47 PM 279 - in a braided bun Smokie August 3rd, 2008, 09:59 PM Day 187: It's gonna be a long day. Elanor August 3rd, 2008, 11:12 PM Elanor - I love that bun you did it looks great, i even like the messy bits sticking out i think it looks awesome! Thank you! :flower: Day 29: A pigtail in the morning at the movies and my special bun for the rest of the day. Day 30: A cinnabun secured with loads of pins. n3m3sis42 August 4th, 2008, 04:09 AM Day 62: I washed my hair and then decided I was going to wear it in a low ponytail. I made the mistake of using a thin elastic (no metal piece) because it was a cute color. I felt like my hair was being pulled out all day. I ended up wearing it down for a while that evening because it seemed like a better idea than that elastic! Finally, I put it up in an equilibrium bun with a pen. Days 63 and 64: No interesting hair drama. Just a cinnabun with a Quattro Starlites fork. Islandgrrl August 4th, 2008, 06:16 AM Saturday was Day 248. We went to the Anacortes Art Festival & I wore a cinnabun w/Ficcare. Sunday was Day 249. I bought hairtoys at the Art Festival and wore the hair fork I bought to hold another cinnabun. Today is Day 250! I have a wonky little braided bun this morning being held with my silver hair fork. angelthadiva August 4th, 2008, 06:38 AM 251--Ponytail Braid 252--Scrunchie Bun .Amanaka. August 4th, 2008, 08:24 AM This is actually my last official day of the challenge. I'm not even sure of the last time that I checked in, but my hair spent most of the month in buns, with the occasional braid. Today I have it up in a faux crown braid, which it is finally/almost/maybe long enough for. Figured I'd do something different. One of the things that I noticed throughout the challenge was the fact that my hair is suddenly... long. I just started calling it waist, and I realized the other day that I am practically at hip. So, that was kind of interesting to notice, though not really connected to the challenge. Not sure if I'll continue - it's 20 days till my birthday, so I might go until then, but taking the cheat day that I denied myself during the month. When it was down for a couple of minutes or so (never longer than a half hour), it was such a pain in the ass - it was getting in my way all the freaking time. I guess I need to keep it down some more so I can get better at the long hair dance. Patrycja August 4th, 2008, 10:11 AM Day 95 of 100 A bee butt bun.I put my Quecraft dragon slide across the top. It's been quite awhile since I've last worn it. yrrebwartsymssi August 4th, 2008, 11:18 AM Day 23-27:pony puff :) I think i am just going to do 30 days... i miss my hair being out and i actually think i am doing more damage by brushing and trying to keep it in an updo than just CO and leaving it to dry... my hair isn't long enough for this challenge yet :( i had fun though Meli August 4th, 2008, 05:39 PM Day 4 of 15: I started with a Soft Nautilus bun, but the ends kept falling out. I hadn't expected that since it worked at this length earlier this year, but I think my ends might be more slippery since I trimmed away some of the worst velcro the other day. So, after redoing it three times I got tired of it and put it in a pinless braided bun again. Smokie August 4th, 2008, 05:47 PM Day 188 technically almost: Still awake. Still in the cinnabun with the emerald ficcare. After I eat I'll oil and braid and cover with sleep cap thing so my sister and brother-in-law and nieces will mock me as I pass out on their couch. This picture shows my hair color as close as I can get it on film.Far cry from the blondish brownish.Oh and that is a french twist comb that I just poked in the top of my bun.My bun is actually held by 3 amish pins.If you look really closely, you can see one poking out the bottom a itty bit.Now that I'm doing so much better with cinnabuns-I think I'm going to take some time today and try new dos again. angelthadiva August 6th, 2008, 09:59 AM Day 254--English braid No, you are the one who is too sweet, Patrycja! :flower: I see you got your red hair back too! :joy: Elanor August 6th, 2008, 11:46 AM Day 32: A pigtail at work and a french braid after that (finally made a decent enough french braid to actually go out and show it to people:D Yay!).
