AJoifulNoise March 28th, 2008, 09:54 AM Day 25 of 32: Cinnabun with clippies.
Day 26 of 32: Banded ponytail.

Patrycja March 28th, 2008, 09:56 AM gotta question about the rules-today I have the butterfly clip braid(there is a few pics of it in my album)and I was wondering-is that even considered a updo? Its not all the way off my shoulders, its kinda like a lower ponytail with clips.

In my challenge, anything that involves all the hair is an updo. So, a regular ponytail with a scrunchie is an up do. A sock bun with the extra hair hanging down is an updo. Half-ups are not updos for me because they involve half of the hair. Make sense?
Even having said all of that, everyone tweaks the challenge for themselves. If you consider it an updo, then it is. :)
Gemma March 28th, 2008, 12:02 PM Day 4: Dutch braided pigtails for the morning, and then my first sock bun for the afternoon/evening. :)
rhosyn_du March 28th, 2008, 12:07 PM Ack. I've been so bad at updating. Today is day 88 for me, and I'm sporting a peacock twist. It's pretty much been french twists and peacock twists for me every day since my last update. I did do something fancy for a wedding last weekend; I'll try to remember to post the pictures I took when I get home from work.
angelthadiva March 28th, 2008, 01:08 PM 128--Started out in a semi-quasi Crown Braid until one of my male coworkers found a "hair piece" (his words) it was actually a hair pin (idiot) laying on the floor...I slinked off to the bathroom and put my hair up in a Chinese Braided Wrapped Bun w/a nightshade's stick I scored from OhioLisa! :D

Smokie March 29th, 2008, 02:13 AM Thanks Iggie!
Day79: Cinnabun with bloodwood Etta Mae fork. Feeling lazy and I'm the only one here till 6 or 7am. Unless you count the night's "friend" (friend = psycho harassing lady who won't stop calling no matter how many times I tell her I can't order her adult pay per view because she doesn't remember her password and no there's not a supervisor or anyone else here for her to talk to for ten minutes, give up, and put her in the penalty box). I see maybe ten people today. Hair doesn't have to look awesome for that.
Though I was glad I didn't just go the scrunchiebun route as I wound up needing my fork (for the skinny pointy ends) to fix the office internet when I came in. :D
Gemma March 29th, 2008, 07:25 AM Day 5: Uhm, single Dutch braid again.
I think this is the point where I realise how boring I am! xD I need to learn some new updos. . .
LaurelSpring March 29th, 2008, 09:02 AM I am new here but I like this challenge. I am not familiar with all of the updoes mentioned. Can somebody help me with a link or somewhere I can go for instructions on different updos?
My basics are french braid and some basics buns but I really want to experiment with more.
Thanks!
Fran
Patrycja March 29th, 2008, 09:03 AM Day 5 of 14-low pigtails braided halfway down
thanks ajn for the clarity on the rules :blossom:

AJoifulNoise March 29th, 2008, 10:39 AM Day 27 of 32: Modified Chinese Bun.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/SycoTrekkie/2008/March292008Upload002.jpg
Once again I had to modify this bun. It was starting to look like I was stuffing too much hair behind the stick. So, now I wrap it around the stick twice before wrapping it behind the stick (instead of once). The picture doesn't really do it justice.
ETA: Ignore the frizzies, I shampooed today.
MoonCreature March 29th, 2008, 01:18 PM Day 9: cinnabun
Vela March 29th, 2008, 01:22 PM (thanks for the welcome Smokie!)
Day 5 and its back up into a plain ol' chinese bun, too lazy to put it in a tiara braid right now! XP
Meli March 29th, 2008, 01:34 PM I'm probably boring, but here goes:
Day 19: Riding braids
Day 20: Inside out bun
Day 21: Bad hairday - started out with an English braid. It was messy, redid it, it got too loose, redid it, it started to pull on my scalp, tried to redo it and eventually put my hair up in a soft nautilus bun instead. And oh - did I mention that I had a bad hairday? :p
Day 22: English braid. My hair is behaving better today, thankfully.
Smokie March 30th, 2008, 03:08 AM Meli~ It's okay to be boring! Unless your goal for the challenge was to learn new stuff and not be boring... I've been pretty boring myself lately.
Day 80: Yet another cinnamon bun held with my bloodwood Etta Mae fork. I've really got to start doing different things every day again. Perhaps next week I'll wear it a different way every work day again... Or try not to wear it up the same way for work until I run out of updos... Hmmm...
n3m3sis42 March 30th, 2008, 03:53 AM Okay, I've thought about this for a week or so, and I think I'll join too, with a modified version of the challenge.
My reason for joining the challenge is that I've decided that my hair has reached a length where it needs to be worn up when I am at work, except on Fridays. The funny part of this is that I work in a casual office, but it's a personal rule. You never know what person thinks hanging long(-ish) hair is unprofessional, and I don't want to unwittingly hurt my career, such as it is. I'm not willing to cut it, but wearing it up is okay.
Therefore, my rules are that my hair must be worn up when I am at the office on Mondays through Thursdays, and it must be worn up when I go to sleep (because it gets messed up otherwise). I think that this is going to mean that I'll shift one of my washing days from Thursday to Friday, so that I can leave it down to dry. On the other washing day, I'm going to have to let it dry for a bit and then put it up damp. If this doesn't work, I'm going to have to revisit my rules.
I hope my weirdo rules are okay for this challenge. :)

Of course your rules are okay! We like to keep things pretty laid back around here. ;) Welcome to the challenge!
LaurelSpring March 30th, 2008, 08:21 AM Thanks for the links! They look great! I also got a couple of updo books on amazon. They are for girls but it looks like they have alot of variety.
Patrycja March 30th, 2008, 08:51 AM day 6 of 14-
high ponytail with bangs in mini claw clip.I'm feeling horrible and that's all I can manage.
MoonCreature March 30th, 2008, 09:14 AM Day 10: High cinnabun that is drenched in coconut-oil :o
Meli March 30th, 2008, 10:34 AM Meli~ It's okay to be boring! Unless your goal for the challenge was to learn new stuff and not be boring... I've been pretty boring myself lately.
Hehe, then I can be even more boring :p My main goals for joining was to stop obsessing with length and splits. I might even go for an entire year - except for necessary S&D missions once every 1-2 months and official measure-in on the 1st every month. I like to try new updos on days when I have enough time, though.
Day 23: Soft Nautilus bun (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=557&pictureid=7061)
AJoifulNoise March 30th, 2008, 11:18 AM Day 28 of 32: Cinnabun with little black clippies.
When I got up this morning my hair was so incredibly soft... Like cat fur or babies skin. Yeah, that soft. I wanted to wear it down. Or half-up. But, I put it up. I want to finish this challenge strong with no cheating. Besides... After I sleep on my hair it tends to look fuzzy when worn down... But it was so soft... *Joi pets her bun* Still soft!
SolSara March 30th, 2008, 11:58 AM Day 3
Ponytail in all different styles. I had a full day and remade it for the situation like every other hour. :)
Day 4
My easy-hair-stick-style. No idea what it can be called, since I learned it my self with a pen during some boring lesson in high school.. And it never looks the same, but I'm at least at a length now where it holds really well.

Vela March 30th, 2008, 02:51 PM Day6: I have my hair in a ponytail, it'll go back into a bun when my headache goes away!
faeflame March 30th, 2008, 05:02 PM Hi all!
I joined the hair up for a month challenge on Jan 1. I'd just barely made a month and LHC went down, waaahhhh!!
I sorta slacked a bit and went back to my normal default style for around the house- a single braid- since then. Still, it was up. So I guess I'm still on track to play in the Year Up group. I just need to get around to figuring out this new LHC ad posting some pics.
PS- It's great to see so many familiar folks in this thread!!
Smokie March 31st, 2008, 03:35 AM Faeflame: Welcome back! It's good to see you around again. **drools on the picture of the perm in your siggy again**
Day 81: Decided to wear my pretty white shirt so I made a cinnabun (again. Blah) and made it pretty with a white flower pin I picked up at Claire's. It's a bit long for my cinnabun now, but someday it won't be! And the guys at work don't care anyway. lol.

Islandgrrl March 31st, 2008, 05:35 AM Saturday was Day 122. I've made it 1/3 of the way!!! Cinnabun w/a wooden hair fork I've had forever.
Sunday was Day 123. Braid all day. Oiled it in the morning, heavily.
Today is Day 124. Braid right now, then later something else. Washing the oil out after I'm done w/workout. Probably a French Twist today.

WOW! :thud:Thats commitment good job. :)
I wear my hair up most of the time, but decided from 25th March to wear it up all the time till the end of April. Day 7 today, but my hair is so short and most of my hair styles are boring. :D
MoonCreature March 31st, 2008, 12:06 PM Day 11: figure 8. But I must admit, I cheated for half an hour during the day and let the hair down, partly because it is so clean and soft and wonderfull, but mostly because I had a headace.:o
SolSara March 31st, 2008, 01:18 PM Day 5
English Braid. First time I actually think a single braid looks decent on me and the braid feels thicker. I hope it's because it's healthier and not because it's starting to get a bit greasy..
AJoifulNoise March 31st, 2008, 02:53 PM Day 29 of 32: Cinnabun with sticks
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/SycoTrekkie/2008/March312008Upload004.jpg
I rarely use sticks with this style because they don't usually hold my hair. Gave it a go today and it held. So, hurray!
Starting to get nervous about the "unveiling" on the 3rd (when my challenge ends). After my last challenge I went through a period of hair-orexia... I thought it was hideous and thin and icky. Even when other people told me it was beautiful.
Took quite awhile to get over that. I'm hoping that won't happen again.
n3m3sis42 March 31st, 2008, 03:08 PM Day 1: Cinnabun with sticks.
I suspect this will be a recurring theme, as I don't know very many updos.
Interestingly, one person at the office told me that my hair looked "cute" and another one (male) told me, "Hey, you have pointy things stuck in your hair."
Heh.
Neorah March 31st, 2008, 03:31 PM Wow, I completely failed to keep up with this thread...
I have been wearing my hair up, though. I accidentally fell asleep with it down twice, and there were a couple of days-- two or three?-- where I attempted to wear it down, but ended up throwing it in an updo after an hour or so. I have actually been kind of hating my hair lately, so I haven't been keeping up with LHC as much in general...
But with only a couple of transgressions, I'm on... Day 22 of my updo challenge? Not too bad!

Day 7 of 14- another high ponytail with bangs back.I still feel bad :(
AJoifulNoise March 31st, 2008, 07:08 PM jennydaesy- Thanks for the compliments! :flower:
ilovemycop- Thank you. I'm sorry you're still feeling bad. :blossom:

angelthadiva March 31st, 2008, 07:58 PM 129--The Killer w/a nightshade's stick
130--I did a SSW this AM, and just pulled my hair back in a boring English braid.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/SycoTrekkie/2008/April42008Upload001.jpg
I actually tried oiling again today with jojoba oil. I did it while my hair was soaking wet and concentrated mostly on the ends. And, now that the ends are dry, they aren't oilly! I guess they soaked it up.
Islandgrrl April 1st, 2008, 09:02 AM Day 125: Up in a twisted bun secured with the pretty boxwood stick I got from Angelthadiva.
squiggyflop April 1st, 2008, 09:10 AM ok so im going to try this challenge for a week just to see if i can do it... after a week ill see if ib can make it 2 weeks and so on until i cant do it anymore... ive been wearing my hair down 90% of the time since september... i havent gotten any length this month and i know it grew because i had half an inch of roots showing that i just hennaed over so im thinking that its breaking off...
day one.. an oddly shaped bun that started out as an infinity but ended up being a weird twisty thing... held by one hairstick and 2 flowerpins.
Smokie April 1st, 2008, 09:11 AM I'm going for a month.

Lookin' good there SolSara!
Slept through most of Day 82 (seriously need to stop flipping my schedule around. makes it harder to track my days) so sleep braid. Woke up, went out to smoke, and a june bug flew into my braid (awful beetle things with very grabby scary legs). I spazzed and flipped my braid up and down with one hand (slapping motions) until the braid unraveled and I heard the bug smack into the table/wall. Now it's in a cinnabun with a jolly roger stick. Think I'll keep wearing a hood or hat when I go outside until junebug season is over. I hate them and they're blind. Gaaaah.

Welcome to the challenge Squiggyflop! Good to see you over here! And I do hope wearing your hair up more helps you gain more length. It seems to be helping me, though I won't be measuring until tonight. ;)
Gemma April 1st, 2008, 09:30 AM Day 6: Single Dutch braid but my hair was too clean and it fell out, so I switched to a plain ponytail (high and bouncy).
Day 7: Half-up ponytail. Technically not totally up, but I was attending my grandfather's funeral and this hairstyle looked the best for the occasion.
Day 8: Dutch braided pigtails (again).
MoonCreature April 1st, 2008, 09:37 AM Day 9: I must learn new styles... Cinnabun again
LuXious April 1st, 2008, 09:55 AM Day 2 photo:http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c334/PELLYKATE/SANY0371.jpg
Now on day 7, it's in one braid and dirty. Hendigoed on the 30th. Been wearing in the day 2 style and one braid, alternately. 53 days to go.
LuXious April 1st, 2008, 09:55 AM Woah, that's big. Sorry.
Smokie April 1st, 2008, 09:59 AM Woah, that's big. Sorry.
Big and GORGEOUS! How do you make it and what is it called?
Gemma~ Sorry to hear about your grandfather. I think a halfup definitely counts as up for special circumstances such as that. :flowers:
Tsevoth April 1st, 2008, 12:04 PM Count me in! I will try it for one month, and see how it grows.

Patrycja April 1st, 2008, 03:00 PM Day 8 of 14-a hugmongus(????)sock bun with my ends out.I feel better today but still not on top of the world.I didn't feel like struggling with a new style so I went to the goto style I have come to love.
Thanks for all the good wishes everyone :bighug: I love it.
I hope everything is going to be better for you soon Gemma
AprilElf April 1st, 2008, 06:33 PM Day 2: 'Flip Braid (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=248&pictureid=7300)'
:Star:
Smokie April 1st, 2008, 07:40 PM We're gonna call the next few hours that I'll be awake Day 83. I've really got to find a better way to keep count with my new schedule. It may actually be day 84 or even day 85. I tend to flip my schedule around too much and wind up sleeping through the hours I'm normally awake so I get mixed up.
Anyway, Day 83: Currently down to dry after a modified caramel treatment (hair does not like avocado anything apparently) and a CO wash. Once it's a bit closer to dry it'll go into a sleep braid of some sort. And if my new magnetic rollers work, tomorrow may involve a few hours of down or halfup as I'll be trying for loose waves in the morning.
Oh! And AprilElf: your updos are gorgeous!
Vela April 1st, 2008, 10:20 PM Day8: I had it in another chinese bun today, tomarrow I WILL put it up diffrently!
rhosyn_du April 2nd, 2008, 12:48 AM Day 92: Cinnabun held with nothing but my Claire's flower fork/pin things and a couple regular hair pins. I'm finally long enough for buns that aren't sock buns. :cheese:
n3m3sis42 April 2nd, 2008, 03:41 AM Day 2: Cinnabun with sticks.
Um, yeah. Not too creative, am I?
Gemma April 2nd, 2008, 08:18 AM I hope everything is going to be better for you soon Gemma
Thanks so much. :)

Still trying to tweak it. It is starting to look okay. Had to do it wet this morning because I had somewhere to be. Now that I'm home I could take it down, but blah I don't feel like it.
squiggyflop April 2nd, 2008, 09:02 AM DAY: 2
cinnabun held by 3 flower pins... the third one is just decoration
Islandgrrl April 2nd, 2008, 09:56 AM Day 126: A loose and sort of messy-ish French Twist secured with my 5-prong metal hair fork. It's got lots of coconut oil + shea butter in it in prep for washing this afternoon.
angelthadiva April 2nd, 2008, 11:24 AM Monday, March 31--Updo Day 131, English Braid
April 1, Updo Day 132, Pony Tail Braid
April 2, Day 133, Started out in a scrunchi bun  Now, it's in an English braid :D
What can I say, I was running late!
Vela April 2nd, 2008, 11:43 AM Day9:My hairs in a braided bun today, I had it in a braid last night, and when I woke up I didn't want to take it out so I (gentaly)jabbed a hairstick in and bunned it up.

SolSara April 2nd, 2008, 01:03 PM Day 7
Easy-hair-stick-style
MoonCreature April 2nd, 2008, 01:23 PM Day 10: Orchid bun (which I loved, but after about 6 hours it started pulling really bad :( )
AJoifulNoise April 2nd, 2008, 01:44 PM Day 31 of 32, cont.: My hair is choosing the day before the end of the challenge to scream for its release... I took it down out of the chinese bun earlier to let it dry. It was pretty and wanted to be down so I put it in a pony tail. The drove me bananas for some reason (perhaps because I almost never wear pony tails. So, I tried to put it up in a braided chinese bun... It was fuzzy as could be. So, I took it down. Now, it's in a pony tail, misted, and drying again.
...Rebellious hair day...
firebird April 2nd, 2008, 03:40 PM I'd love to join this challenge :) My growth seems to have stalled so it would be good to put it up and ignore it for a while, and learn new styles too (though my hair isn't long enough yet for many of the amazing styles you all do!). I'm trying a month...day 1 is my first Chinese bun with homemade stick.
Patrycja April 2nd, 2008, 03:40 PM Day 9 of 14-two cinnabun pigtails at the back of my head

n3m3sis42 April 3rd, 2008, 04:07 AM I am so lame.
Day 3: Cinnabun with one of those slidey hair toys. What are they called? It's a piece of leather with two holes for a stick to go through. Anyway, I had that on my cinnabun. Wow, I either need to learn more styles or stop posting about this. :)
According to my rules, I get to wear my hair down on Fridays and one weekend day (because this is mainly a keeping-my-hair-up-at-work thing for me). So no posts from me about my boring hair for a couple days after today.
Edited to add:
Day 4: Sock bun!!!! (Yes, I finally managed another style.)
Smokie April 3rd, 2008, 05:13 AM I am so lame.

It's perfectly alright to be lame if your challenge doesn't specify that you're not allowed to be. :P
And I believe it's called a slide.
Patrycja April 3rd, 2008, 09:15 AM Welcome firebird!!
Day 10 of 14-this really weird but neat looking style I thought of this morning.I was sitting here literally scratching my head over what style to put it in to make the itchies go away untill tonight.A sockbun is always good for that but I am so ready to get away from that for awhile.I had my hair in my just woke up high ponytail to keep my bangs off of my face while I did my daily chores.I got to playing with it while watching my recorded shows from last night and this is what I came up with: (excuse the darkness)
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e303/cyodice05/SN850809.jpg
man that is a huge picture. Its really dark too but everytime I let light in my bathroom or turned my flash on-it gleamed and you couldn't see the finished product.
I basically clipped up peices of my ponytail with miniclaw clips so that the ends flopped over the top of my head.I did this all the way around the ponytail(to sort of hide the elastic I have). It looks like a mini sockbun in the middle too
Meli April 3rd, 2008, 10:01 AM ilovemycop: That is very pretty and creative!
Yet another boring report:
Day 24: English braid
Day 25: Soft Nautilus bun
Day 26: Riding braids
Day 27: English braid... again... :p
Islandgrrl April 3rd, 2008, 10:12 AM Today is Day 127. After my conditioner disaster yesterday (long story) my hair is very lovely today. Very soft, very shiny, very well conditioned! So today I rolled the sides and clipped them so they will stay, and then gathered all the hair to the back and made a cinnamon bun. It's secured with a comb usually used for French Twists. Feels VERY secure! And looks nice!
ilovemycop, that style is really cute. I may have to try that one of these days! (BTW, I love my cop, too)
Gemma April 3rd, 2008, 10:13 AM ilovemycop, that is lovely! :)
Day 10: Flippy updo (from here: http://www.network54.com/Forum/242462/message/1074471805/Flippy+Updo+Instructions), though it looks totally different on my considerably shorter and layered hair.

firebird April 3rd, 2008, 10:15 AM Thank you Smokie, AJoifulNoise and Ilovemycop :)
Day 2: I didn't have much time to try something new, so just twisted up a ponytail, folded it over and clipped it with a Ficcare-type clip - I don't know what it's called!
Ilovemycop - I love that style you created, it looks great!
squiggyflop April 3rd, 2008, 10:25 AM day 3
ok so this morning i tryed to do my mickey mouse hairdo... the buns are huge!! i guess my hair really has grown... it wasnt long ago that my mickey mouse buns only had a small puff of hair around them now i can wrap the extra hair around the main buns... they are so big that one of the buns blocked part of my view in my rear view mirror while i was driving to school... my temple hair is in 2 little braids. .. i took some pictures but i havent gotten around to loading them onto my computor
LuXious April 3rd, 2008, 10:40 AM Big and GORGEOUS! How do you make it and what is it called?
I take so long to reply. Well, it's three sections of hair. The first is what you would use for a half-up do, the other two are what's left on either side and underneath in the back. Each is twisted, wrapped around once like to make a cinnabun (that's as far as it will go at this length). Almost to the end, I pull up a loop of hair through the middle but try not to pull the ends through, then weave in a... uh, I don't know what it's called-- it's like a little plastic pointy prong thing that Scrunci makes, a big pin for heavy hair. I'm sure you know the name for it. Anyway, I do this to all three sections of hair, grouping them close together on the back of my head. Does that make any sense at all? It turned out looking really complicated and all interwoven, but I think my lack of skill just resulted in some discombobulation that looked pretty cool.
angelthadiva April 3rd, 2008, 10:49 AM Day 134, French Braid.
This wasn't how I wanted to wear my hair, but once again got up late...I was up to 1AM working on a paper for Sociology that is due tonight...It's done, I can exhale now! :D
SolSara April 3rd, 2008, 11:29 AM Day 8
Changed a lot during day. Started with two braids, then damp half-pull-through-ponytail and now a sloopy english braid. :) Everything suitable for changing activity... But always up, at least. :)
AJoifulNoise April 3rd, 2008, 11:32 AM Day 32 of 32: Braided bun with sticks.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/SycoTrekkie/2008/April32008Upload006.jpg
It was born out of failure. I tried to do a dutch braid while my hair was still too damp. So... The top of the dutch braid was all wrong. But, the braid was beautiful. Thick, shiney, lovely. And, looking at it, I had the sudden realization that I have enough braid to do a braided bun! So, I did.
This is my first one ever with just one braid.
Islandgrrl April 3rd, 2008, 11:34 AM Very nice, AJN! You've got such lovely hair!
rhosyn_du April 3rd, 2008, 11:36 AM Day 94: Just a ponytail today, since I was running late.
AJoifulNoise April 3rd, 2008, 11:43 AM Very nice, AJN! You've got such lovely hair!
Thank you!! :D
Elainehali April 3rd, 2008, 12:19 PM I'm joining the hair up challenge for one month.
(I did this before on the other site)
Mostly because I've gotten the trimming bug. I keep trimming my hair when it's giving me problems, or when I get bored. So I've almost gotten rid of the layers, but I haven't gained any length in the time that I've been here.
I figure it's time to get step away from the scissors. =P
Day 1! The most bland bun imaginable held with a pen. Horay school.
AJoifulNoise April 3rd, 2008, 12:20 PM Welcome to the challenge, Elainehali!
squiggyflop April 3rd, 2008, 12:22 PM ok so i got some pics onto the computor....
here is my day one hair:

look how bright it looks in the sun! (the smaller pic inside the big one is me in the sun) isnt it strange how henna changes color with the light
Vela April 3rd, 2008, 03:17 PM 1.Your braided bun was very nice Joi!
2.Welcome Elainehali!
3.That is SO cute squiggyflop!
Day10:Not sure what its in, I put it in a high ponytail, stuck in a hairstick, wraped the tail around said stick. (It's not a chinese bun) I wish I could put up pics! >:(
thankyousir74 April 3rd, 2008, 03:23 PM I wish I could join this! Too bad my hair is too short to tie up :D ::sighs:: Waiting for it all to reach shoulder length!
AJoifulNoise April 3rd, 2008, 03:25 PM 1.Your braided bun was very nice Joi!
Thank you. It's still holding! That surprised me.
Suldrun April 3rd, 2008, 06:01 PM Hi everyone,
I'm so glad to see this as i had just started when LHC went down and then I got lazy.
I guess will count tommorow as my first official day. I am aiming for at least 30 days.
My goal is to get better at updos and also protect my hair. Lately I've been doing plain buns held with Good Hair Days hair pins and I have been practicing french braids.
I just got my camera cord back so i can now download pics yay.
Smokie April 3rd, 2008, 06:17 PM Welcome to the challenge Suldrun!
Today is Day 85 for me. Almost three months. Wow. It's currently down to dry a bit. Having issues getting a routine settled that works both for my hair and scalp. Very frustrating. So I did a WO wash and tried out some Giovani 50/50 conditioner. Not sure what I think. Hair still feels dry and angry from the avocado thing the other day. I'm thinking peacock twist if my ends don't feel too icky. Otherwise it'll probably be another cinnamon bun with more oil on tucked under ends.
I'll update when I know what I'm doing. Very sad blah day for me. Wish I could just stick it in a sleep braid and stay at home cuddling with my manatee plushy. :(
Patrycja April 3rd, 2008, 06:18 PM Thank you all very much :flowers: :blossom: Since it was a wet and rainy day today-my ends that were flopped over ended up curling.I looked like I was going to the prom by the end of the day LOL
welcome suldrun!!!!!
eta-squiggyflop-you look like a anime character....:)
squiggyflop April 3rd, 2008, 06:54 PM eta-squiggyflop-you look like a anime character....:)
yeah alot of people were saying that to me today and i got a ton of compliments... the pictures dont do justice to how big the mickey mouse ears really are... as my hair gets longer the "ears" get bigger and bigger... and the longer my hair gets the more secure the ears get... i used to have floppy "ears" when i did this style but now the extra hair anchors the buns in place so that even when i hop up and down they hardly move (if they move at all)
usually i only get compliments from women on my hair but today i got alot of compliments from men and only one or two compliments from women....
Smokie April 4th, 2008, 04:11 AM Update on day 85: Bad day, bad day. Hair wound up in a very sloppy cinnamon bun held with my birdseye maple Etta Mae fork. Didn't have a chance to take a picture, but it's a mess and feels like it could collapse at any moment so I don't think it really matters. Kinda matches my mood and the way today seems to be going.... Meh. At least it feels a bit softer and less dry/crunchy than yesterday. And in three or four hours I can go home, braid it, and be miserable/pouty/sobby/whathaveyou for an hour or two before I have to go to sleep.
n3m3sis42 April 4th, 2008, 05:04 AM It's perfectly alright to be lame if your challenge doesn't specify that you're not allowed to be. :P

Islandgrrl April 4th, 2008, 09:02 AM Aw, Smokie, I'm sorry you're having a bad day. ((((hug)))) I hope it turns around and your weekend is wonderful.
Today is Day 128: I'm just full of hair laziness today. I oiled last night since I'm going to CO later in the day and it's just up in a cinnamon bun secured with my very least favorite hair sticks. They're some kind of nice wood, with I think copper wire on top securing turquoise coloured scarabs. They're very lovely, but somehow just not me (and they will probably end up swapped or sold at some point because I just don't wear them - I know someone will love them much more than I do!).
Suldrun April 4th, 2008, 09:23 AM Day 1of 30: Still in the messy braid that I slept in. I am planning on going shopping this afternoon so I will wash out the MN thats in now and put up in a braided bun for the rest of the day.
AJoifulNoise April 4th, 2008, 09:37 AM My challenge is up! So, my hair and I are having a party.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/SycoTrekkie/2008/April42008Upload027.jpg
Patrycja April 4th, 2008, 09:56 AM yea a party! I love parties :p Looks great AJN,the artificial color looks like its almost gone,if not completely already :D
Day 11 of 14: I had a horrible experience with the Caramel Treatment,so I woke up with a case of the horrible greasies. Its in a sock bun right now because I had a parent teacher conference early this morning with my DS7 teacher.I'm about to jump in the shower and shampoo once again to see if I can get my hair back.I can't believe this :(
Meli April 4th, 2008, 10:04 AM AJoifulNoise: Congratulations on completing your challenge!:cheese:
ilovemycop: I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you get your hair back to normal.
Day 28: Two-braids infinity bun. (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=557&pictureid=7538) At last something less boring :D

As for mine, the color is still there. Most of it is out of the shot. Here's my length shot:

Meli- Thanks!
Patrycja April 4th, 2008, 11:10 AM ahhh gotcha.Looks like you grew a good inch, inch and a half since the length shot in your march siggy.
Thanks meli and ajn,I just washed with sauve shampoo and squeezed the suds down my length.I used a lowend cone and a ACV rinse with a few drops of Tea Tree EO in it.It felt like hay when I rinsed and got out of the shower :( I put aloe and a tiny bit of coconut throughout and it is currently down and drying. It still feels so dry.

You know, that's what it looks like. That's what it feels like. But the tape measure says I grew .75". I measured a bazillion times to make sure. I'm so confused.
Patrycja April 4th, 2008, 11:28 AM great new siggy!! do you plan on continuing the challenge after a break??
sorry for the slight hijack smokie :( I do hope your day gets better
AJoifulNoise April 4th, 2008, 11:32 AM great new siggy!! do you plan on continuing the challenge after a break??
Thank you! I don't know. After the first challenge I swore I wouldn't do it again. But, I did! I may be back. I mean, I'm hardly through the day here and my hair is already back up in a cinnabun! lol I was going about my chores and thinking "ack, what do I do with all this hair!"
Patrycja April 4th, 2008, 11:35 AM I do that and my hair is not even half your length..although-I looked at it after washing and wet,its right above BSL.That's my longest layer..My shortest are still at shoulder/APL.

Aww, that's so sweet of you. I miss posting them to be honest! I'll probably be spamming the "How are you wearing your hair today?" thread with my pictures.
Patrycja April 4th, 2008, 12:10 PM I did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally did a french twist held by a stick! I added the second stick for looks..don't mind the horrible sticks,I didn't feel like using a fancy looking one and these are my plainest ones I have at the moment.Oh,and as you can see,I left the ends hanging out.I'm going to try to do one with the ends tucked in,but I have to find the directions for that first.

rhosyn_du April 4th, 2008, 12:20 PM Day 95: If my hair were longer, this would be an infinity bun. As it is, it looks kind of like a cross between and infinity bun and a french twist. Very comfy an easy.

Gemma April 4th, 2008, 01:54 PM Day 11: single Dutch braid. I know, I know. . . BORING. But I spent the day doing messy chores or out running so I needed something simple. :)
It's in a sloppy bun now for bed.
Vela April 4th, 2008, 07:29 PM Day 11:
(Were on the same day Gemma! XP) I had it down today as I said I would, but I did put it off to the side so I didn't have a part today! I love having my hair like that but after a day it starts to hurt. So I'm adding another day to my challange.
AnneAdeline April 4th, 2008, 09:16 PM I had to count back because it has been so long since I posted on this thread. I have been keeping my hair up, though. A lot of French and Dutch braids.
Day 24: French braid into a bun.
AprilElf April 4th, 2008, 09:40 PM Day 5: Folded four-strand braid (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=248&pictureid=7582).

Smokie April 4th, 2008, 10:05 PM Sadly, day 85 did not improve. Today isn't looking much better. But at least it's my last regularly scheduled night alone (granted, I'll probably be alone again tomorrow). Meh.
Day 86: Another yucky day. Hair is in another cinnamon bun with my birdseye maple fork. This bun was made with the combined anger of "Why didn't you tell me the power was going to be out briefly while I'm talking to DBF before bed?!", "Why did you wake me up bashing the turned on vacuum cleaner against my door at the equivalent of 4am to me?!", and "Why did you wait until it's almost time for me to leave to realize that I overslept because of being woken up for an hour at my 4am by the bloody vacuum cleaner!?!!". It is not a pretty bun. Work has not started well either. I'd re-do the bun but it would be made with residual anger from the aforementioned events as well as "Why are all these people calling?!", "Why aren't we appropriately staffed?!", and "Why do you jerks stop doing nonpay restores SIX HOURS before I get here?!".
Ugh. Sorry for the rant.
No time to comment on everything but....
I still can't make french twists stay with anything but good days pins, a french twist comb, ficcare, or a clamp of some sort. Sticks and forks do not work for me.
I like pictures of hair.
Teesha started the thread on the "old forums". I just reincarnated it here.
And yay! Frisco just melted and I get stuck with some crazy lady in Waco. Blah.
n3m3sis42 April 5th, 2008, 05:13 AM Day 5: Fridays and one weekend-day are allowed hair-down days for me. I ended up wearing my hair up all day yesterday, though, because I didn't get around to washing it.
I did a sock bun again. I was pathetically excited about it because now I know another style. Anyone have any simple suggestions for the hair-retarded? I also got some new hair sticks from Barreis. Maybe I will take pics when I try them out.
Today I am going to wash my hair, and I am definitely going to wear it down. I hope that posting that wasn't like going onto a diet community and talking about the chocolate cake I'm eating. If so, I apologize, but it seems like most of you genuinely enjoy doing this challenge and aren't on hair "diets".
ilovelonghair April 5th, 2008, 06:41 AM I have been wearing my hair up since xmas and I have been busy trying to invent new hair styles, It's a lot of fun. My hair is much happier now and slowly getting healtier
If I'm not too lazy I will take some pictures and post them on the board :)
Gemma April 5th, 2008, 07:25 AM Day 12: Dutch braid for running this morning. Finally settled on a bun wrapped in a scarf after my shower.

squiggyflop April 5th, 2008, 11:31 AM day 4 : cinnabun
day 5 : scrunchybun
Brun April 5th, 2008, 12:02 PM Now I will join your club. My hair is generally in an updo, it will be no problem for me to wear it up. But I will try to change my buns. Usually it is a figure 8. And suprise suprise

Vela April 5th, 2008, 08:32 PM (Welcome Brun!)
Day12: I never took it out of the sleep braid from last night. I probably should have put something over it, I'm now a 'redneck'. In other words I have a sunburn! (And just a few weeks ago we had SNOW! )
Suldrun April 5th, 2008, 08:43 PM Welcome brun
Smokie and ilivemycop thanks for the welcome
day 2: Low pony tail around the house in the morning then I put it in a cinibun because I was going to be outside for hours. It fell down 3 times :( I'm sure this will get easier as the challange goes on and as my hair gets longer. Of course now I'm home and ready to take it down and it actually feels secure lol.
Smokie April 5th, 2008, 09:54 PM Day 87: So far better than the last couple days. Woke up to a lovely email from DBF which made me feel a bit better. And work's started off much better also. Which is good. Hair's currently in a french double braided bun of sorts. Didn't realize how hard it would be to french braid upside down, so the bottom half is just a regular three-strand braid. I even took a picture.

Smokie April 6th, 2008, 05:46 AM Smokie, I hope your day continued to be better all day long. :)
Well, everything blew up here (almost literally) so it didn't remain as calm as I'd like. But I have a nice happy sugar rush and remain in a decent mood. I do fear there will be a repeat of yesterday's incredibly strange cable issue. Thanks for the well wishes. :)
On a more hair related note, my updo seems to be holding up decently (ends got dangly and I had to redo the bun portion a couple times, but that's to be expected from my layers and short braids) and isn't pulling or hurting at all. :)
nayver April 6th, 2008, 12:31 PM Hi!!! I've been taking the challenge since March, but until now I decided to post here ;) For me it's very difficult since my hair is short, just 16 inches :(. I'm keeping my hair up with french braids, french twists and ponytails. Any suggestions?
Day 37 A little bun with clips
n3m3sis42 April 6th, 2008, 12:40 PM Day 7: Sock bun. I am getting a lot of mileage out of this new style!
Gemma April 6th, 2008, 12:47 PM Day 13: Sock bun with a ribbon! Ends out and messy. :) Today is a 'bad hair' day for me and I am much with the frizz.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v18/Keller/Hair/IMG_0731.jpg
Suldrun April 6th, 2008, 01:09 PM Gemma thats so cute I never thought to use a ribbon on my sock bun. i will have to try that.
Day 3: I am around the house today being lazy ( I have been in that mood for a few days ) I left my hair in my overnight braid its not too bad as I have a satin pillow case.
Tonight is a MN night and I think I will do it early as soon as company leaves then just rebraid it and leave it in untill tommorow.

Elainehali April 6th, 2008, 04:41 PM day 2. Simple bun for work.
day 3 inverted cinnabun with a white lilly flower I made.
day 4 bun with two rinestone octupus clips.
AJoifulNoise April 6th, 2008, 06:54 PM You know... It's kinda funny. I've been off of the challenge for 3 days now. And, I'm still wearing my hair up. I even think about taking it down but convince myself not to, like I'm still in the "challenge mentality." And, the few times I took it down I got annoyed because it was everywhere so I put it back up!
squiggyflop April 6th, 2008, 07:46 PM day 6
i was bad and wore my hair in a pony tail for most of the day.. i spent most of the day sleeping by the way. im wearing a scrunchybun right now.
i cut off 2 inches yesterday. my hemline is alot thicker but im noticing that without all that taper i have trouble getting buns to look right and stay up...
Vela April 6th, 2008, 10:32 PM Day 13 was weird, it went from ponytail in the morning, to a braid after I got back from church I put it in a English braid, I took it out to brush it for youthgroup, but fell asleep. So I only had time to brush it and run out the door with a hairtie.
(I also steped on a hot ember today! I do that every year, you think I'd learn to put something on my feet around the fire, but nope. :XP: )
Smokie April 6th, 2008, 10:40 PM Day 88: Currently in a high ponytail held with a scrunchie. This may change soon as I'm already getting a headache. Could be from shaking my head about though. I do enjoy feeling my ponytail hit me in the ears. Probably a bit too much but it's been a few years since I've been able to feel it.
ETA update: The ponytail paired with (pardon my tech support induced superiority complex) all the morons calling in was giving me a massive headache. Couldn't find anything that didn't pull or hurt so I let it down for a couple hours. Then managed to make an extremely loose low ponytail work for most of the night. But it was looking ratty by the time people showed up so I somehow got a loose french braid (started below my crown with just a few weaves) not to pull too horribly. Now it's down again to sleep 'cause my scalp can't seem to handle much else.

WritingPrincess April 7th, 2008, 01:57 AM I was on this challenge, and I lost track of the thread. Oops. I think I'm somewhere on day 90 or so. I need help. I'm constantly having the urge to wear it down. All the time. So much so that I feel like reincarnating the hair down challenge. I think it has something to do with the weather. I DON'T WANT TO GO FOR A WHOLE YEAR! It was okay during the winter but I want to be done! Can someone help me?
Hairytale April 7th, 2008, 06:09 AM Hmm, WritingPrincess, I am afraid I can't help you much. I made the experience that the longer I have my hair up, the more the urge to take it down disappeared. Now I am at a point where I can't even stand braids (besides the annoying fact my hair sticks out everywhere due to layers) because they touch my back. With my hair down I'd feel like I forgot to dress, so I "can't" wear it down anymore. Now I feel comfortable with my hair up in a bun everyday and I am quite sure I'll have no major problems finishing the year challenge.
Today I am on day 128 if I counted correctly. My woes with misbehaving hair are getting better, I think. My everyday updo is now some sort of hybrid between a log roll and an orchid bun. And the best is - it stays secure with nothing but two U-shaped metal forks/pins! (My hair ate all claw clips, so this is really facilitating for me! Yay hair! :D)

Suldrun April 7th, 2008, 10:00 AM day 4 of 30: Still in my messy overnight braid I'm home doing taxes blah :(
I have one appointment out of the house or I would leave my hair the way it is now because I have MN in it and a ton of oil. I guess I will head off to the shower now and wash up. I plan on letting it air dry for a bit and then put in a french braid for the rest of the day.
firebird April 7th, 2008, 10:45 AM Congrats on completing your challenge Squiggyflop!
I haven't been doing any new styles as my DH is sick, so between looking after him and working I haven't had any time to experiment...

SolSara April 7th, 2008, 11:46 AM Day 9
Easy-hair-stick-style for school, then wash and down for drying the rest of the day
Day 10
Easy-hair-stick-style. Well, I had better things to do than fuzz around with my hair and that's the fastest up-do I have. Only half the time from making a nice ponytail.. :) But I did found out that it is only secure when keeping head relatively still. It does not hold well when on the skateboard.
Day 11
Cinnabun with hair stick. Low ponytail in the evening since it's the most comfy do for a long ride on the bus.
Day 12
My first attempt for a braided chinese bun, using the stick my boyfriend bought me on his business trip to China. I still need some more inches before it will look really good, but I actually got some compliments on it at school today. :)

Islandgrrl April 7th, 2008, 02:58 PM Saturday was Day 129. Up in a twisty thing that wasn't really a french twist. Secured with Fakkare.
Sunday was Day 130. Braid. All day.
Today is Day 131. Stared in a braid for workout time, then COd and put into a damp bun to dry. Which, 8 hours later, it still is NOT even close to being. Secured with a single plastic hair stick right at the moment. Somethine else later, but I don't know what.
WritingPrincess April 7th, 2008, 03:09 PM Hairytale, I think it would be better if I could wear buns, etc. Mostly I'm stuck with variations on braids and sock buns. It was easier when I wore it down to bed, but now I stick it up in a cap so that it doesn't tangle so badly. I have my detangling time once a day to comfort me. Would anybody consider it "cheating" or being a turncoat if I alter my goal to 6 months? 'Cause I really want to try wearing it down for a week straight. I think when I'm older and allowed to wear it up up, then I'll come back and try again.
Today I'm wearing double braids.
Vela April 7th, 2008, 05:00 PM (I wouldn't consider it cheating WP, 6months is a long time!)
Day14:English braid. Again. It's quick, easy, and I was rather lazy today. XP

tiny_teesha April 8th, 2008, 06:01 AM I'm pretty boring with my hairstyles. STILL wearing it up. I'm REALLY starting to miss it loose. I still feel ugly, but it only helps me to work on who i am on the inside and to let that show. As much as i want to wear it loose, i am ashamed of my ends, so i don't even want to wear a plait as it shows taper.
My work hairstyle is a plaited bun 90% of the time. With some other bun the other 10% of the time.
my default at home style is a cinnabun in an octopus clip or a plait.
The only time i try to shake it up is tafe, wearing normally a type of bun of sorts; my bow bun, cinnabun, braided bun, octopus bun, my "le grande bun"... And then occasionally putting it in a french twist or something different. A "random" bun and amorettis bun, cant remember its name, but i leave the tail hanging loose normally.
My fav hairstyle is the random bun with a stick or something through it (just twirling the hair normally in a rough cinnabun style but i may do all sorts of things to help it hold securely.)
I need to sift through the archives and see if i can see what my finishing date is. Sometime in october is my guess... I can't wait!
angelthadiva April 8th, 2008, 07:37 AM 139--I'm not sure what kind of bun this is, but I have it secured w/a fakkare. I will edit later to add a pic, so you all can tell me what it is???

tiny_teesha, I know what you mean about the lack of variety. My hair has a lot of fly-aways and so I can only do a braid if it decides it's in the mood to cooperate. Besides that, I am hairstyling-impaired and only know how to do a sock bun, a cinnabun, and a plain ponytail. I know how to do a French braid on others, but I always mess it up when I try it on myself.
Good luck with your challenge! Like you, I'm doing it for reasons that go somewhat beyond the hair itself, so it's worth it even if I don't learn more styles. But I hope that I'll eventually learn more styles.

Bahaha. Why do you think I truncated my challenge from a year to 4-5 months? I plan to keep wearing it up at work after DBF comes home. But he pouted far too much about the idea of me wearing it up for the first 8 months of him being home... I couldn't deprive him of my hair either.
Also, it's Day 90! It's in a folded over pony. I've been lazy and haven't washed yet. Looks awful, but I don't have anyone to impress. Not for a couple months more anyway. ;)

I didn't specify for how long to do this, when I started, but I meant to do it at least one month. And now it feels like the perfect time. :) But I'm sure I will wear it up a lot much more when I've finished the challenge than I did before. It's fun trying out different styles. :)
Islandgrrl April 9th, 2008, 02:18 PM Yesterday was Day 132. Up in a cinnamon bun secured with sticks.

Patrycja April 9th, 2008, 04:38 PM Talk about aggravating...my internet has been out for 3 or 4 days now.I just wanted to come in here real quick and update on my challenge:
Day 12 of 14 low pony tails
Day 13 of 14 a really messy cinnabun
Day 14 of 14 Today!!! started off with pig tails but ended up as a really high ponytail.
And I'm done!!! I'm going to take a few days off and do it again for 14 days.I'll be back very soon(if my internet company decides to get off their keester and fix it)
n3m3sis42 April 9th, 2008, 05:05 PM Day 10: Cinnabun with one of my new hair sticks, again. I am lame.
WritingPrincess April 9th, 2008, 06:19 PM Okay, then. I'm shortening my challenge to 6 months, and I know I started in the first week or so of January. Sooo, my challenge will be done my birthday, June 8. Then I'll consider going for another 6 months. And, I discovered that a bee-end bun done at the nape of my neck will work. That's what I'm wearing now.

Day 15 of 21 a nice bun that's not a cinnabun or a sock bun for once.I have a actual plastic chop stick horizontal and my ends wrapped all around it.My layers that we sticking out in weird places are held with mini black claw clips. The things I swear by.
SolSara April 10th, 2008, 11:44 AM Day 15
I wanted to do a cinnabun with small clips. I've done it once before and it looked really good, but not today. My ponytail base recently have gotten much thicker. *yay* But it made the bun look really weird, tapering a lot just in the first coil. Anyway, I ended up with a nice looking sideswept english braid.

goodenough April 11th, 2008, 07:48 AM For the first time in my life--I'm noticing split ends. My hair is mid-back (27 inches) with a deep U hemline. So I'm going to wear it up for one week to start. I have a feeling the splits are from rubbing on stuff. I mostly want to avoid the low ponytail, as I think this is causing breakage, tangling, and rubbing. I just got a salon trim, so it's not that i need a trim.
I'm also doing s&ds and I'm already using jojoba, but I'll pick it up a bit. So today, I'm going to do a braid folded up and secured with a clip.

My posts are going to get awfully boring, because I'll be wearing a bee-end bun all the time. angelthadiva April 11th, 2008, 11:08 AM He, he, thanks ilmc! I was browsing through photo albums for inspiration, and never thought to just wrap the ends...I'm digging it other than my ends are coming untucked...My hair is being very rebellious lately.
I'm telling you, making this sock bun was the best idea of putting to use things I would have most likely thrown away (eg, holy socks and a pair of tights w/runs in them)!!
Islandgrrl April 11th, 2008, 11:24 AM Day 135: Up in a heavily oiled very messy (not intentionally) figure 8-ish bun. It gets COd later if I have time. If not, it's going out on date night exactly the way it is. Pffft. I don't care today. :p

Day 13: It's currently in a messy braid because I'm sitting here drinking coffee and thinking about finally doing our taxes.
I don't think I ever set a goal for how long I want to do this challenge. I sort of want the "wearing my hair up at work except on Fridays" thing to be permanent, so maybe a time goal isn't necessary?
angelthadiva April 12th, 2008, 01:12 PM #143, I heavily oiled last night, and my hair is currently in a messy bun awaiting CWC...Later on today.

Suldrun April 12th, 2008, 09:35 PM Day 9 of 30: Not 100% sure I should count today. My hair was being very moody. n3m3sis42 April 13th, 2008, 11:49 AM Today is my two-week mark for this challenge!!
Day 13 (continued from yesterday): I wore my hair in a sock bun when I went out last night.
Day 14: Today is a lazy, stay-at-home day. I had my hair in my sleep braid all day, then took it down so my hubby could apply henna for me. Right now, it is in a lovely, chic shower cap, plastic wrap, and towel "updo". After I rinse it out in a few hours, I will probably leave it down to dry and then put it back in the sleep braid.
Patrycja April 13th, 2008, 12:28 PM Day 18 of 21 I pulled half of my hair into a french twist halfup(secured with small fakkare) and with my longest bottom layers,I braided them into two low pig tails.
I'm going to be around family again(I was yesterday with that interesting do I came up with)today.I'm going to be known as the weird hairdo girl LOL
EtherealJane April 13th, 2008, 12:56 PM You all are very inspiring! I hope it's not too late for a newbie to join! :waving:
I'm basically new to taking (good) care of my hair in general. I started growing it, because I like the length, and my DBF loves it long too! ;) I've switched over to all natural products in every aspect of my life, including my hair. Since discovering this community, I realized that long hair doesn't get there on it's own, and I'm determined to make my hair the healthiest and happiest it can be. My hair gets so tangly when wearing it down all day, so I'd like to set my goals for this challenge as follows:
Must wear hair up 6 out of 7 days a week, with a max one-hour break in the evening once DBF gets home. I also MUST wear hair braided/secured to bed (it's been horribly tangly if I forget!).
I'm hoping this will reduce the need for me to wash my hair. Currently, I'm washing every day, which is a bit tedious. My scalp is decently oily, but ideally I'd like to go every other day. I know part of the reason it's oily is because I touch my hair a lot if it's down, so wearing it up more will help. I also want to reduce breakage--my hair can get SOOO tangled when it's down (thinking of the huge painful knots makes me cringe) so wearing it up more will definitely help.
I also hope that by actively participating, I'll learn some great new styles and tools (as I really am a newbie not only to this forum, but to hair in general!).
Suldrun April 13th, 2008, 07:10 PM day 10 of 30: I had it in 2 bun type things on either side of my head. It was nice because i could lay on the couch with out it bothering me the way 1 bun would. They were messt though lol. I took pics. and will upload as soon as I find my little white cable thing:)
I am just now putting it in 2 braids for bed. It had no tangles so I think I am going to do the 2 bun thing agan.
Suldrun April 13th, 2008, 07:11 PM Oh and welcome etherealjane :)
AlleyKitten April 13th, 2008, 07:24 PM I think when my new hairscarves arrive in the mail I'm going to start on a two-week challenge as a way of kicking myself in the butt about learning new updos. I wear it in an english braid or a rope braid almost all of the time, but that's more "back" than "up", and it's getting really boring. My rules will be that it has to all be up off my back in some way unless I'm combing it, washing it, or letting it dry [EDIT: oh, yeah, and sleep braids are fine, though I need to take them out and put it in a real updo before I've been awake for more than an hour]. Either some kind of hairstick bun (my god! could I actually learn to use pins?), or up under a scarf or snood counts as up, even if it's not actually in a bun in the snood -- as long as it's contained in the little mesh bag and off my back, it's up.
Until then, I'll be watching this thread for updo ideas! I love seeing y'all's posts in here!
Meli April 13th, 2008, 07:25 PM Welcome to this challenge, EtherealJane!
Day 35: English braid
Day 36: Soft Nautilus bun
Day 37: "S&D braids" :cheese: I haven't done any major S&D for more than a month, thanks to this challenge. However, I have had some tangling issues lately and that is usually how my hair tells me it's time to snip away some splits... So today I did it. I braided my hair in several small braids and unbraided one at a time to check it for splits - hence "S&D braids". Of course I found lots of splits, but still way less than I had expected :happydance: Hopefully, I will be able to go longer before next S&D mission now.
Patrycja April 13th, 2008, 09:39 PM Welcome to the challenge EtherealJane :flowers: I joined this challenge to get better at updos and its worked wonderfully.I already met my first goal of 14 days and now I'm almost done with 21 days without a break in between goals.I just might do a third goal of 28 days..haven't decided yet.
Vela April 13th, 2008, 09:47 PM Day20: I believe, I had it up in a tiara braid today.
(ETA That I was on day 20, not 19.)
Smokie April 13th, 2008, 10:02 PM Day 95: Messy cinnabon with birdseye maple Etta Mae fork. I woke up late and it was the first toy I saw and quickest thing to do. Looks like crap I'm sure, but it's up.
And I promise I'll get around to posting the picture of my first decent infinity bun soon.
nayver April 14th, 2008, 02:12 AM Day 45
Since my hairdo skills are not the best, today I only wear a scrunchy bun. Easy.
AprilElf April 14th, 2008, 02:33 AM Day 14: 5-strand braid (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=248&pictureid=8824) (still need lots of practice on this one!)
:Star:
n3m3sis42 April 14th, 2008, 07:42 AM Day 15: Chinese bun (!!!)
Yes, that's right. I finally managed to teach myself a new trick. It's kind of a pathetic Chinese bun, I guess, but it's staying in so far and at least it's not yet another sock bun or cinnabun, right?
angelthadiva April 14th, 2008, 07:57 AM #144 CWC and plopped for most of the day
#145 was actually down for our hair meet, so I'm counting today as my #145
DD6 and I from our hair meet yesterday.

Girl, it wasn't close! It was a 6 hour trip! There has to be somone down by you...Post in the Community meets, and see if you have anyone respond. We had a ball.
Islandgrrl April 15th, 2008, 01:29 PM I've missed a few days, but I'm not sure when I last posted. So today is Day 139. Messy bun (really really messy, but it looks nice) secured with fakkare. 226 days left.
angelthadiva April 15th, 2008, 01:33 PM #146, lazy, brushed sleep braid.
Patrycja April 15th, 2008, 01:50 PM Thanks for the tip ;) When I have time to go on a meet-I'm going to post it there.I have too much going on now.
Day 20 of 21 a variation of this-http://www.network54.com/Forum/242462/thread/1088429226/Ponybun--- I left the pony tail out instead of wrapping the ends up like the last step suggested.
WritingPrincess April 15th, 2008, 02:12 PM I'm still in, but I'm wearing bee buns almost 24/7, so I really don't have anything to update. I vary the scrunchi that I decorate with, but I always use my two new size 6 Wavelength pins. It looks like I have little pink horns sticking out of the base of my bun . I really need to get some amish pins. I think I'll eventually wear other styles, but right now I love throwing it up in the morning, combing it at night, putting it back up (minus the pins, so that it's looser, I hold it up at night with a scrunchi) and that's all. The only minus is that it takes about 36 hours for my hair to fully dry in a bee bun. I wash my hair every 48-72 hours, so I don't think it'll be a problem.
Kelpie April 15th, 2008, 02:22 PM I think I'll join the challenge for at least a month and see how I go with that. I really like wearing my hair down when it is freshly washed so this will be a bit of a challenge for me. I want to see if I get less breakage and hopefully it will seem as if my hair is growing faster if I'm not always playing with it.
I might allow myself one or two occasions when I want to look specially nice ;). I'll start today :D
redhead_rachel April 15th, 2008, 03:08 PM i'm still going on my challenge, though haven't been posting pics as I've been being lazy and wearing a standard pinned bun for work.
Today I wore my hair in a bun with 2 hairsticks because I was painting :) (my day off)
For some reason i'm comfiest painting in hairsticks...
I wish I'd got a pic of how I did my hair for the family party we had for my brother's 18th... I'd pinned all my curls up higher than usual at the back of my head, kinda into a bun, but softer with a slightly regency effect :) i stuck a couple of hair spirals in too :)
edit- it was my brother's 18th, not mine
EtherealJane April 15th, 2008, 03:17 PM Day 1: For some reason I couldn't get to the site at all yesterday... but my hair was secured up in a cheap slide. It was sort of an updo... at least it was up
Day 2: Regular cinnabon, with a twist. I parted my hair down the middle, and used two barrettes to pull the hair off my face (like how I do it when I want it down, but off my face). I then gathered my hair and put it in a low bun at the nape of my neck.
Neither style is particularly hard, but I'm having fun. I took my hair down yesterday and was getting ready to braid it for bed, and I couldn't believe how soft and tangle free it was. This challange is going to be fun! :cheese:
n3m3sis42 April 15th, 2008, 04:36 PM Day 16: Sock bun.
WritingPrincess April 15th, 2008, 04:48 PM I just took my hair down and put in in a very high ponytail, so that the longest wispy is almost at my waist. I want it to dry fully, and, since I oiled it slightly, it's looking like 2a hair.
Vela April 15th, 2008, 08:22 PM Day21:Tiara braid
Day22: It was, yet again, in another tiara braid.
Suldrun April 15th, 2008, 08:47 PM Yesterday was day 11 of 30: It felt very dry and not nice but my scalp was oily so I BBB to spread the oils and it felt a lot better. I had it in 2 braids the rest of the day.
Today day 12 of 30: Still naturally greasy( wash day tommorow) and I had to run some errands so I put it in a single braid and put on a cap to go out.
Smokie April 15th, 2008, 10:57 PM Day 96: Sleep braid. I slept through it.
And today is Day 97: Did a few french braid weaves above my crown, pulled the bottom half into the braid, wrapped it around into a cinnabun, and shoved a fork through it. Looks awful (could be pretty if I'd combed, misted, and AGO'd first) but I've been at home pouting and being a nerd all day. I miss my army man. :(
Hairytale April 16th, 2008, 01:57 AM I am on day 137 and I managed to switch my everyday style from an orchid bun to a modified log roll. I think that style is going to work for one or two months, then I have to look for a new one.
rhosyn_du April 16th, 2008, 02:08 AM Day 105: Finally long enough to go into a cinnamon bun held with sticks. Woo hoo! I still had some pieces sticking out, but it stayed up all day at work.
Day 106: Peacock twist held with a ficcare.
AprilElf April 16th, 2008, 02:12 AM Day 15: Infinity bun (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=248&pictureid=8983)
Day 16: Flipped up cinnabun (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=248&pictureid=8984)
:Star:
angelthadiva April 16th, 2008, 08:34 AM #147, scrunchie cinnabun...I was too tired to do anything else.
