Wow, Tiny Teesha! I'd never last one year on this challenge, so I really envy you! not only you now have had a year full of protecting your, but also you'll now have the surprise-effect on your side, when you let it down and show it to your friends!

Gothic Lolita - Do not envy me, i used to wear my hair down DAILY. This is HARD! And i did wear it in pony tails so the length won't shock and i stupidly cut off 5cm on top of the 8cm of the past 2 months, it was needed. So i basically lost all that growth i got in that year as well as maintaining my length since May (and going shorter since September progressively)

This was my experience. Way back when, in the old ancient times when LHC was on the old boards, a little more then a year ago, i had this bright idea to start a "wear hair up for a month challenge" not expecting it to catch on as it did!

At first there were many struggles!! I was a daily wear hair down person- because i felt i looked better with loose hair, and the fact that at school i was forced to wear it up so i wanted it down when i graduated!!! Wearing it up made me miss it, and i feel UGLY!

As time passed i forgot about it. And i noticed straight away my hair was less tangly, which meant less ripping, less splits, and over all improved condition! Also there was the occasional shock factor when i wore my hair in a pony tail that my hair seemed long so i got a few compliments. Comments rather.

I also learnt many different styles I probably would not have and only just recently mastered the dutch braid!!!

Then the month was up and i think ilsandgrrl had the idea to make it for a year! And i decided to join right away, and since i had continued to wear my hair up still except a few days i deducted them and got in line! Therefore i had a head start :p Hence why i ended this challenge first!

My family also tried to force me to wear it down on occasions, because up looked "bad" so not everyone was supportive. I deducted a day from the total monthly to calculate with the 3 hours of drying my hair 2 times a week.

Now a year later I recently as mentioned above cut more then a years growth, so technically there is no growth difference that i was hoping to wow people with, and i broke my own rules of not fussing about my hair length, but oh well!!! haha.

Same length, but back to back i do see a lot of improvement! I'll take a photo on a green top soon!

I trimmed off the last of the velcro ends, though APL down is still damaged hair! It feels smooth to the ends now, still APL down is not AS smooth, but much better quality then the past velcro ends were!
And yes i already miss the length! *sigh*

I have to congratulate you. That's a lot of willpower right there. It would be hard for me to do too.

Day 339--I did a wash late last night and woke up with a flaky head :( I did some scritching and massaged in some monostat onto my problem areas and heavy oiled the length (ears to tip)...Hair is currently in a rope braided bun.

If time permits, I may color tonight. :shrug:

Aries_jb - thank you! Yes it wasn't without it's difficulties. I wore it half up today, and let me tell you, i have already whipped it back up, my hair loose is tangly and annoying! Pity yeah? Since i'm allowed to wear it loose now! And it is summer soon also so i will wear it up heaps as well!

Ok, I am still doing this, but I've had a lot of work on and have just been pinning my hair into a standard bun which takes zero effort, but isn't really that exciting...:rolleyes:

I'm going to hop on again. Last time I did a two-month challenge and it really kept my hair healthy :) I'm going to wear my hair up every day until Christmas (at least), and I also challenge myself to learn french braid and dutch braid. And ponytails don't count this time.

eta- hmm....the second picture looks worse, but I assure you it looks and FEELS much better. I will need to take a better photo. It is shinier, and the thinness is due to the dampness i assure you! It is actually a smidgen longer now!

I've unbraided the tail, and loosely twirled into a bun and secured with my Boots Fakkare (sp?) which I love BTW, why didn't I get one of them sooner (I'm a poor student and unfortunatly cannot afford a ficcare :( ).

I am interested in having another try starting Sunday 16th November 2008. I have a couple of formal functions in the next few weeks where I will wear my hair in a half up - hope that is up enough to be part of the challenge.

Yet another Cinnabun today

wearing my hair up from 27 november and so far 5 days.
All those days i wear my hair in a regular braid, didn't even look at it ...only in front...so it's good so far.
Today i am gonna wash my hair and oil it then put it in a braid.

I have had my hair up except for my birthday on friday when it was in a half up - however, I do not have time to post daily and by the next day I have forgotten how I had it up the day before!

I do want to try for a year - Starting 16th November 2008 - 2 weeks down and 50 weeks to go!

I do try and take photo's and I will post some of them as I get a gap.

Well done to all who made the year and good luck to all of us on our journey - this definitely protects hair.

I've read the rules. I'm going to go for one Month Now that my hair is a little longer than it was when I first joined, I can actually get most of it up into an up do. Instead of only half ups. The short hair at the nape of my neck still falls out, but not nearly as bad as a couple of months ago.

I have had my hair up except for my birthday on friday when it was in a half up - however, I do not have time to post daily and by the next day I have forgotten how I had it up the day before!

I do want to try for a year - Starting 16th November 2008 - 2 weeks down and 50 weeks to go!

I do try and take photo's and I will post some of them as I get a gap.

Well done to all who made the year and good luck to all of us on our journey - this definitely protects hair.

Day 26-Tuesday-Half cinnabun/peacock twist thingy with new black jimfo fork from a swap...

Day Three- single three strand braid flipped upwards and held in place with a Phoenix Feather Peachwood Hairstick

Day 3- Low "best as I can get scrunchie bun with 17 inch hair" aka turd bun.

Day 370--Rope braided bun secured w/4 hair pins
Day 371--Wet, rope braided bun scured w/a clippie.

Day 85 - up in a bun with a scrunchie. Just got my ear pierced (helix) and found out that I have to make sure my hair isn't too close to my ear or else it pulls. So no more loose braids for a while.

Today - Yet another boring Cinnabun with wood stick

Day 372--Currenty an English braid.

day 4- three strand braid

Day 371 (Yesterday): Celtic Knot with Willowthewisp sunflower
Day 372 (Today): Cinnabun with Willowthewisp turtle.

Day 28 Thursday was wash/henna day so it was in a ponytail until I did that, then down to dry.

Day 86 - Dutch braid pinned up to my head.

Today - Wrapped bun held with wood stick, grey hairband in front.

Day 5- messy cinnabun thingy.. (basically up and out of the way to do a looooong sales report at the office today)

Day 373--Currently a messy, swirly montrosity (sp)...Held up with spit and clippies...Well, not spit exactly, but water...but I'm heading for the shower...Today is a wash day. :D

Day 11-23: I only wore my hair down one of these days... the rest it has remained in my old faithful bun... only 7 more days :)

Day 29-Friday-(you'll see a pattern here LOL) 1/2 cinnabun 1/2 peacock thingy with my new ketylo fork

Day 24 &25: bun... I must say that after taking my hair down and CO it thoroughly and letting it air dry today that it is significantly healthier looking... also... DO I DETECT A BIT OF LENGTH?!?!?

YaY I'm going to join for a month :D

I hate having my hair up so this really is going to be a challenge for me. It's Eid tomorrow so I can't start tomorrow, and so to be fair I won't count the past two days when I've had my hair up :wannabe: I actually had my hair up all day today (for Eid) and probably will do the same tomorrow, so I have decided to count the past two days (and today) and there fore I shall consider myself to have started the one month challenge on the 6th!

Personal rules and regulations for my 30 hair-up days:
I will started on the 10th 6th.
I will generally alternate between crown braids, and my braid pulled up into a scrunchie.
I will wear my braid down for bed.
I will only leave it loose to dry, as soon as it dries I will oil, braid and put it up.


I have (what seems to be) an unfounded fear of breaking hairs, especially hair high up near the scalp where I would 'attach' my updo, or putting so much pressure on hairs that I weaken the root or (even worse) yank it out. Any hints and tips on working with fine hair are greatly appreciated.

Day 87 - Dutch braids.
Day 88 - Dutch braids.
Day 89 - Dutch braids at first, but now it's drying. Notice a pattern? ;)

Well, after fighting with my hair trying to keep it up. I think I'm going to wait one more month. Then try the challenge again. One more month should give me enough more length that I'm not struggleing so to get it up.

I think I will.. I'll go back and edit my last post so that I started two day ago when I actually -did- start wearing my hair up! YaY that makes me on day 3! that was quick ^.^

I have been an on again off again participant here, and I am rejoining. It always does my hair some good to have extended up time, and my hair sure needs somethin' right now! The dry cold winter air here is wreaking absolutely HAVOC on me.

Right now it's soaking in conditioner and honey, and I'll put it up right after my wash. So, it's Day 1!

I'm going to dance class later so it'll be up in a figure 8 bun with a twisty water proof hairstick.

Oh, thanks for the cheers! But really, I'm so used to wearing my hair up at this point, the idea of wearing it down kind of freaks me out a little. :)

I guess I'm on day two. I just learned the figure 8 bun yesterday and absolutely love it so that's how I wore my hair yesterday and today.

I'm rejoining this challenge as the damage my hair is sustaining from being down is just UNREAL. The dryness/static that comes with winter isn't helping either. 60 days! :bluesmile

I'd also like to set a mini-goal of doing a broader range of updos - my last challenge consisted almost entirely of scrunchie buns. :undecided

Okay, I have hair envy, Monsterkitti. I can't do a figure 8 to save my life!!!

Day 376--Sock Bun with an English Braid
Day 377--Rope Braided bun w/a scarf

Day 2 - The sides are twisted and the back is bunned, and I put a little flower pin in there, too.
It was up all night in a figure 8 bun on the top of my head.

My hair is STILL damp from yesterday afternoon's wash, so that's good - I want my hair to stay moist and happy.

Day 33-Tuesday-Scrunchie bun

OOH just a side note: I'm noticing that updos are getting easier to do! Just in a month or so! WOOHOO!

day 2, same bun as yesterday until I take a shower, then I will probably braid it or something. I'll check back when I decide for sure what to do.

I've transitioned to that cinnabun. The French Twist kept falling out. :(

Day 5: Was in two braids for bed last night and left them in until this morning, then tried to put them up with a hair stick, then gave up on hair stick because it would pull on individual hairs and hurt even after trying dozens of times! I'd appreciate any tips on using a hair stick since I really really really want to use them but I can't seem to get it to work without either pulling my hair or falling out! I then tried pinning my braids up with little claw clips, made my head hurt so I unbraided and left it loose for a couple of hours, tried hair sticks on loose hair, same problem, eventually braided it and left it hanging down my back... Every time I put it in and out of a style I cringed at the thought of breaking hairs (heck I even thought I heard hairs snapping) *sigh* I think I'm a wee bit tired today.. I think all the parties this week have gotten the better of me *promises to fix sleeping pattern this weekend*

Day 29: (today) I am thinking about... you guessed it... a bun... I was thinking about wearing a bun until the back of my hair was able to be in the bun without me having to clip it to my hair... it falls maybe an inch from where i put my ponytail holder. Since I am on the the no trim for 2009 thing i decided to go ahead and do 180 days worth of wearing my hair up :)

Just a peacock twist.....
which due to the fact I have shorter hair (just below my shoulders, around collar bone length) is a standard updo for me. Pulled up into a twist and the ends cascading down around my head like this

I am trying this for a month - to see if I can make it. I may be wearing my hair down at Christmas. Apart from this, I am moving houses this month, which is why I *want* to bun my hair first thing every morning.
I started yesterday, so my challenge will be until Jan. 13. I don't want to commit for a longer period too fast - a 1-month testing period sounds good :)
Yesterday, my hair was in a figure-8 braided bun, held with a flexi.
Today - Day 2 - , Gibraltar bun with a long wooden hairstick. I did lots of intense packing this morning - it is now almost noon here - and it is holding perfectly.

Let's see...yesterday was Day 381. I did a little roots henna in the morning then oiled the heck out of everything and stuffed into a cinnabun for the rest of the day. Today is Day 382. It is, um, still in the cinnabun from yesterday :bigeyes: and is a little frizzy and wild. Don't care. I'm effectively snowed in today.
