where'd the (never before seen) email icon go??

I was jumping around a couple pages, mainly my PMs and suddenly I saw what I *assume* was a notification that someone has sent me an email.

It was a small envelope, next to my "private messages" link in the top right corner, under my ID name. I was jumping between pages just as I saw it, and by the time the next screen appeared, it had vanished. I clicked "back" for what it was worth, but it didn't show up again.

I've never seen that before. Maybe no one's emailed me before. Regardless, it disappeared as mysteriously as it appeared.
